This is hands down the nicest riding road bike I’ve ever thrown a leg over. Group is Red, wheels are Mavic Cosmic Carbone SLR with carbon spokes. I’m happy.
sweet – but carbon spokes, yikes
.
I thought the same thing, but read a ton of reviews and talked to guys who have some miles on them. They are one of the stiffest wheels I ever ridden and unlike the kysriums, you do notice the aero shape of the spokes at speed. But, they are race wheels and will see limited use… but Mavic claims they are strong enough for daily use.
Pretty!
If you are over 150 pounds, I wouldn’t risk riding carbon spokes!!!
So if you are 147lbs and hit a pothole or jump a curb, then what happens?
I have a teammate and friend who has put almost 6K miles on his Carbone Ultimates (yes, carbon spokes). He’s 152 lbs, but he beats those things up. He warmed up on the trainer, raced a long sprint (won), and then went out for a 40-mile ride with his aunt in one day, if that shows you the use he puts on them.
Edit: Beautiful bike! But those blue tires have got to go.
for comparison sake, what other road bikes have you ridden?
Jee-zuz. Everyone’s a pilly, nitpicky critic these days…
Congratulations on your sweet, spectacular new ride. I - for one - am covetous, and the sight of it gives me a raging boner. May you both have a long, happy life together.
Sweet. I for one love the wheels. Anyone who doesn’t is probably a communist.
Enjoy.
Really, what could go wrong?

just so you know, Mavic R-SYS =/= Mavic Cosmic Carbone SLR. the *tubular *spokes on the R-SYS are what failed. IIRC, the spokes on the Carbone are solid bladed spokes, making them less likely to fail.
that thing looks sick/mean! wow…
Beautiful! I love BMC bikes. Also, love the wheels. Very nice!
Beautiful!
I just built a new crit bike yesterday. I wanted the stiffest bike I could get, I’ve been having problems with far too much flex during my sprints. Here’s what I built…

Took it on a long hill climb today, 28.8 miles and 6800 ft. of climbing, and it climbed really well! I was surprised.
for comparison sake, what other road bikes have you ridden?
Road:
Sworks Tarmac SL
Litespeed Archon
Cervelo R3
Cervelo Soloist SL
Ridley Excalibur
Felt F1
Bianchi Pinella (boron steel)
TT:
QR Caliente
QR Lucero
Scott Plasma LTD
Aegis Zaero
Specialized Transition
P3SL
Ridley Cheetah
I’m sure I have forgotten one or two, but that’s pretty much it. Like I said, this one tops em’ all.
I’ve ridden a ton of wheelsets also, and I was a little hesitant getting into carbon spoked hoops, but DEFINITELY glad I did. They hold speed nicely and the spool up from standing still is effortless as well as accelerating on climbs.
Thanks for all the compliments.
thanks for the insight- your taste in bikes is pretty much mine and with some conclusions I’ve come to on test rides- I’m in the market for a new road bike so this helps me focus
