What are we going to bitch about? It closed at 7486. Without a recession or depression this is going to be one dull forum. How much fun will it be to praise people for making the right decisions? Who is going to enjoy doing that day after day? Sigh.
On the bright side we will always have the Detroit Lions to kick around.
Because this situation is not something that good thoughts is going to fix. You would be asking the same thing if Bush where in office.
The stock market going up a bit is not a sign of anything other then the stock market going up. People still canāt afford their homes, banks are still in trouble, jobs are no where to be found, etc. etc. etc.
now itās only ~50% down since '07. oh yeah! now all we need to keep this baby alive is have the fed announce every day that theyāre gonna pump a billion dollars into treasury bonds.
Tibbs, we are not in a different situation than we were last year. I will go out on a limb and state that you are in not in a worse financial position than last year. If this is the case, then why are you so stressed out by macro metrics that you canāt do anything about since you are no better or worse off from last year.
This is FANTASTIC time to buy. Go out and buy some real estate. Detroit homes are going for $100.
āIf this is the case, then why are you so stressed out by macro metrics that you canāt do anything about since you are no better or worse off from last year.ā
Are you being sarcastic? Please tell me your being sarcastic. Go out and look for a job then get back to me on being stressed.
There are a lot of jobs out there. Maybe not at the pay you are looking for, maybe not conveniently located to you, maybe not in your area of experience or qualification, but there are a LOT of jobs.
Heck, if an illegal alien can make a living in America, I am going to guess that can too.
"Heck, if an illegal alien can make a living in America, I am going to guess that can too. "
Not the jobs the illegals are getting. No gringo need apply.
"Maybe not at the pay you are looking for, maybe not conveniently located to you, maybe not in your area of experience or qualification, but there are a LOT of jobs. "
So take away jobs I am not qualified for, have no experience at and are not in my area then yeah I gotta say there arenāt a lot of jobs out there.
Tibbs, its not the economyās fault you canāt get a job. Itās also not Obamaās, illegal aliens, or anyone elseās fault. itās your fault (in case the buck stops with you).
I have a job. I am working. It is not Obama or illegal aliens fault. It is in fact the economies fault because the last good job I had laid me and other people off becauseā¦wait for itā¦the economy is bad.
I spent some time last week enquiring about the possibility of coming back to the U.S to work. I contacted 4 potential employers (one I worked with before) and all said they would hire me on the spot. All of them were busy and needed help.
I also invested some money when the stock markets were below 7,000 and reduced my average cost on all my stocks to a level that I never thought possible. It is a fanastic time to invest, if you are patient and are willing to hold for a while (most people panic as soon as their investments go down). I am grateful to them.
People are talking themselves out of optimism. I am not saying all economic sectors are doing well but I have more faith in America than most people living there. I find that very strange because when I opposed the war in Iraq, I was told I was unpatriotic and a traitor yet when I stand up and say the American people have the ingenuity and ability to turn this around I am laughed at by the same people who now are so pessimistic against America.
Itās a strange way how we define patriotism. Having faith and belief in your country doesnāt seem to count nearly as much as showing support when we pick on those who canāt defend themselves, all in the name of keeping us safe from those people who are different than us, and so clearly, cannot be trusted.
Here is the deal though. Not everyone is you. Not everyone lives where you live. Not everyone has you education. Not everyone has your experience. In January I waited in line for 3 hours to apply for a cashier job at a new grocery store with people in expensive suits and nice shoes talking on their iPhones to other fancy business folk about how the job market died.
I am all for optimism but reality needs to be addressed too.
Iām with Tibbs on this one. I donāt know if you guys are just trying to be glib or if youāre simply ignorant.
Unemployment in the US will soon be above 10%, equity markets are down over 50% and the housing market has fallen (I canāt remember recent estimates) somewhere around 10-30%.
Some of you have obviously been very fortunate but you only need to read a paper on turn on the television to see that there are a hell of a lot of people who are hurting. Itās frankly a bit offensive to just dismiss that.
I know plenty of people who have been fired and desperately want to work but canāt. Itās just not as simple as saying ātake a low paying jobā when people have a family to support and mortgage to pay.
Of course none of this touches upon the million other problems being caused by these ācuresā. Are you guys even aware that your government just announced it is printing $1 trillion. What do you think this is going to do to your currency (and your savings)? Itās mind blowing to me that anyone would think this is the end of the problems or the worst itās going to get.
