The continued rise of what many believe to be the evil corporate M-Dot (or the Microsoft of triathlon), and the recent sad failure of the 101 series in my opinion once again supports the concept that Triathlon, at every venue, and every distance, from your local sprint all the way to Kona thrives and survives only through the support of the everyday man. The first timers and those struggling to make cuttoffs. If you take away those of us who love this sport dispite a true lack of skill for it, it fails and fails quickly. Traithlon is not a spectator sport and like almost no other sport it is those who participate in it are those that support it. 101 did not market the everyday man. So for you fast, sleek, truly talented triathlons… don’t forget to thank your local everyday men (and women) becasue without us the races would just start dying out.
