It’s striking to me in that it’s so starkly the opposite of the Trump/Bolton/Pompeo approach to dealing with impoverished countries that foster violence. The Trump/Bolton/Pompeo approach is to cut off aid, impose sanctions, and even threaten military force until things improve (Venezuela, Honduras, Cuba, Iran, North Korea). And those actions are starkly unilateral.
Kushner’s plan is to bring together a broad coalition, including the UN, EU, IMF, and a whole plethora of countries. And then inject up to $50B in loans and direct subsidy into the West Bank and Gaza. This is while Hamas, an officially designated terrorist organization by the U.S., is still largely in control of the Gaza Strip. There is no mention of pre-conditions for money to flow.
There’s no mention of any U.S. contribution - it appears the rich Middle Eastern countries and EU/UN/IMF will foot the bill.
It sounds to me like dad has let the son-in-law run off to play at his little experiment. I rather like the experiment more than “beat the country with a stick until westernization and democracy flower”, but I am pretty jaded on the plan still. Though I’ll be less jaded if the second half of the proposal is essentially to require the Palestinians to cede basically everything and hoping that $50B is a good enough price tag for that (which I’m pretty sure it isn’t).

I think this plan, like ever preceding failure, is just to get people to the table to sort the details kinda like everyone agrees on steak for dinner, but is it porterhouse or tri tip, grill broiler or pan, rare or well.

Palestine is a country like I am King of England. Can’t we just call Palestine what it really is, a dirt poor piece of land for people nobody wants. But not long ago it had a burgeoning economy, and was pretty westernized and modern, with extremely high literacy rates, good health systems, etc. The Palestinian diaspora includes a lot of high quality people, from which the U.S. benefited. The land is rich in history and natural resources. Bethlehem is an absolute gem Gaza as a border town on the Mediterranean could has immense potential as a resort city. People do want the land, which is why it’s contentious.
I’m not apologizing for the role Palestinians had in bringing some of this on themselves by not bringing Hamas, et al, to heel. Nor am I sure of what a good resolution is. Maybe the solution is to destroy the culture (good along with the bad) and seize the land. Not sure how that’s done - concentration/re-education camps?

Understandable, there are more wars that Israel didn’t start. But the 6 day war that resulted in the vast majority of the west bank and all of Gaza was started by Israel.
You don’t really believe that the presidents cared about the Palestinian solution do you? Their concern was preventing the outbreak of Another War and making sure the oil continued to flow. Just follow the money…

I am looking forward to the day where Palestine becomes a holiday vacation trip for everyone. Until that day comes we have to accept the fact that nobody is going to help these poor people. They’ve got nothing that anybody wants. That is the world as we know it today.

It’s a large part of it. With Gaza, they just want to lock it down because of Hamas - thus the blockade and other Israeli activity there. But in the Golan Heights, it’s more about pushing potential rocket sites further out, and controlling a buffer from Syria.
Umm, why doe they need to take land and build homes to push rocket sites further out? That makes no sense, you are just moving people’s homes closer to the rocket sites.
