way to go Jodi, that is a rockin first time out!
I got choked up walking to the swim start, at mile 25, and when she put the medal over my head. I can’t believe I didn’t break down and totally lose it!
The swim was definitely a blender. I got some great advice from my coach (Angela Forster), and Jonnyo about where to seed myself for the swim and technique. I had a very clean swim as far as contact from swimmers, but the waves were killer. They’re not predictable like waves in an ocean, so finding a rhythm is really hard.
We’ll talk about IMAZ, but I don’t know if you want to take my advice. I did absolutely everything wrong with nutrition, for sure!
Jodi
I am okay on nutrition - because i eat like a horse on the bike.
BUT I definitely want to hear how you seeded yourself for the swim!!! I need all your swim tips I can get.
I saw a lot of guys losing it on the beach in the live video. I would be the same - I mean what an awesome feeling to have the whole day ahead of you.
Maybe you were too tired at the end? It was probably an out of body experience to get through the run?
Okay - so when are you going to do another one?
HEHEHE!! Had to ask. Because when I finished my first HIM I said I am never doing this again. But when I woke up the next morning I planned the next one. I was hooked on the long stuff. Have done 10 of them - that is why it is time for me to do the FULL!!
Great Job Jodi!!! Can’t wait to hear all about it!!
Sonja
IM Moo '08. I finished and knew right away that I wanted to be back. I’m totally hooked! But this year has to be a running focus. Need to work that weakness as soon as my joints allow it! I’d rather not have 24 miles of pain at my next IM!

Jodi
I think part of that pain was just that it is your first year - next year will be a whole different game for you. I think you will be really good and could qualify for Kona. I really do!!
Great job! Congrats!!!
Congrats! Welcome to the club.
Haven’t I told you before “If it hurts while going slow, you might as well go faster to get it over with?”
Sounds like you took my advice.
Congratulations Jodi… Can’t wait for the full report…
Nurse any injuries and take care of yourself… You deserve it.
Can’t wait for your report Jodi! If you can, lots of pics. Great job!
I was definitely thinking about your IM during the second half of the run! And you know what? You were so right!

My Dad took some good pics, so I’ll put them in the report! Hopefully the official pics will be out soon, too.
I might get to it tonight, but it might be Wed. before I can sit down and write. Not to worry, it will be long!

Jodi
Congratulations Jodi! way to go! I was worried when you said you hadn’t run much but you pulled it off and in good time too!
Congrats on an awesome race Jodi! Way to be!! Especially way to RUN after not being able to!
I hope you manage to get some sleep soon too ![]()
Wow! Congratulations Jodi! All that hard work and dedication sure has been rewarded. It’s amazing to see your positive attitude and great smile. Enjoy the post IM high you certainly earned it!!
Congrats Jodi–you are inspiring to me! I have IMLP in less than a month and am TERRIFIED! Would you recommend putting Tums in your special needs? I never thought of that, but I am so worried about having GI issues, sounds like a great idea!
Again, I’m way impressed!
I will definitely have tums with me next time. Before the swim, in my jersey on the bike and run. If you can, keep it on you so you don’t have to waste time in special needs. I also carried Tylenol Extra Strength Go-tabs (chewable, individually packaged). Saved me on the run.
You’ll do great in placid! Just think positive. Put a hairband on your wrist and give yourself a snap everytime you get a negative thought (learned that from Jonnyo).
