While poor old Matti Weitz continues to get slaughtered in his thread I figured I’d start a general Triathlon Infulencer thread to introduce folks here to some of multitude of lesser known Triathletes, wannabe Triathletes, crossover athletes, celebrities and assorted others who are or have posted about their Triathlon experiences.
First up is Jesse Hansen fron Oz who was on Australian Survivor Blood vs Water after which he decided to have a go at turning Pro.
I reckon it is all good and fair game for anyone to post their Tri lives even if they may be blatant shills. Some of those shills bring more eyes to the sport than most high profile Tri-geeks
Ah yes wonderful, lets give more attention to people who seek attention desperately. Cant wait for the first dude telling us about their training routine for an Ironman and then it turns out its a 70.3, this never gets old.
Great post! If someone enters our house (Slowtwitch) and tells us that they’re going to become World Champion… I’ll be the first to give them a deeply detailed, fully costed, dose of reality. If they’re doing it on another platform and bringing more eyes to the sport then good for them, we should celebrate that.
Folks have been absolutely brutal in the Matti Weitz thread.
What I would like to pivot to is dogging on all the influencers who make one-and-done Ironman content as if completing a 140.6 is the hardest challenge known to man and requires superhuman dedication, unwavering commitment, uncompromising willpower, and spiritual nirvana. It’s the corporate BS generator of endurance sport.
Brotha it’s riding a century and running a marathon, and you can pretty much walk it if you need to.
Hard to disagree. There’s also a difference between those sharing their own experiences and stories and the people who cross into giving coaching advice without the proper knowledge and proficiency.
The 17hr video is interesting as I have spoken to a bunch of Pro’s over the years and they were all like “I wouldn’t want to be out there for 17hrs”.
I have always maintained that part of the struggle of the 17hr crew is just physically being out in the elements for that long doing anything.
I was going to put the famous YouTubers in one group and since you have already posted the Buttery Bros and Average Rob,(Nick Bare is already covered here on ST) ll add my favourite ( and maybe LCB’s favourite) influencer to the growing list.I have posted her before and her reach was amazing.
I really enjoyed the training with Lucy vid, she must be pretty popular to score that get for a show..I have no idea who she is, just an influencer or has she done something special or famous for some other reason?
Nah,she hasn’t done anything too special like going to the Olympics or was a celebrity or anything like that. She just started her fitness channel and people seemed to be able to relate to her and her open style.
It is crazy that she ended up with 1.6 million subs before she walked away from YouTube last year.
