The industry is moving back to hooked rims?

That sucks. Anyone have any idea where one should keep on eye on for the bike he’s working on with longer reach than what’s currently on the market?

absolutely !!!
but the fueses burn quickly here.

i dont think anybody wants to say hookless is a scan
i think what people are saying is that for triathlon and good road surfaces its not the best choice and never was. and why should one buy a wheel that does not work for all the uses that most people on this forum have ?
ie if you race its not the best choice if you just ride like dan does its a great choice.

Just getting around to look at some of the aero data on the new wheel. Why are they testing all the competitor wheels with 29mm tires including the 6.7? Enve even says the 6.7 is optimized for 27mm not 29mm.

It would be interesting to see the 454 and Bontrager rsl data with a 27mm tire on it. Perhaps they did and the results weren’t in their favor.

I am working with Jeroen on the design, so of course I can write with his permission the details, etc. but it is coming along well and will be a really good looking bike.

Im going to go out on a limb and say that it probably because ZIPP doesn’t confirm 27mm tires for those wheels. But I could be wrong. I can ask though.

I’m very keen so please post here as things progress.

He is on FB.

He has some interesting projects including affordable, high performance clothing.

He is a loss to this community and having spoken to him, I am not sure “he asked to leave” is how he would describe the situation.

I hope someone has the wisdom to realize nobody gains from this escalation and things could be better handled on both sides.

I guess maybe i missed something? Wasnt even aware of any drama regarding him on this forum. Was off ST for a week or so, really losing reasons to stay at this point

Last summer ISO updated its tubeless standards and require a 29mm tire on a hookless rim. Most brands didn’t make a 29 so that’s why you saw so many 30s on the bikes of pro teams with hookless wheels. It was also a new OE standard as well. So if you had a hookless rim you had to have at least a 29.

If you look at Visma they have been riding 29 Corsa “Wide” the last year. It’s been available OE and on Cervelo this model year. I haven’t checked to see if it’s being ridden by any other pro tour teams this season.

The UCI mandated teams run the ISO standard tire size, those tire recommendations were released a couple years ago i believe. Whats interesting though is that hooked rims have the same requirements. Seems strange that manufacturers use a 25mm internal width, id think 24mm makes so much more sense because it unlocks so much more tire compatibility

Magicly I can login again :-).

I’m not going into the hookless discussion again. But I did not ask you to ban me or not all to delete by stuff…
You twisted my words a bit to your liking in my answer to your private message.
But lets keep it at that.

That said, fun to be back

I was just pointed to a podcast. Josh Poetner from Silca was on it and gave his professional opinion on hookless wheels, the advantages, crr, cda, etc.

I think he must have read the forum and my simple question what specific benefit or advantage hookless has over hooked and we can’t achieve on a hooked wheel.

He just answered that in the first 10 min of the podcast : -)
