The hammer just came down...hard. (Cervelo supply issues)

Bodaggit!

Just heard from Cervelo. The Soloist Centaur I ordered in February will be shipped in mid to late April. Which to me means early May. Shite!

I did a lot of research going into this purchase and decided that, for my needs, this bike was perfect. So I’m going to be patient, knowing that one month extra wait in comparison of what will likely (hopefully) be 5 years of ownership is no biggie.

Edit: And guess what Goose, even if the bike were ready today, my Vision Tech shorties are on indefinite backorder.

The same thing happened to me when I bought my 03 Team Soloist . I ordered it in Feb and it finally arrived in the middle of May. It was worth it though.

Good luck to all the P3 carbon expectants of April…think July?

Well, that just makes me happy that I decided to go with the 2.5 Choris. I ordered my Soloist in January and when the 15th came around I made the decision to stop waiting and get a bike. I’ve been on the 2.5 for a week now and I have to say, it is the 2nd best bike I have ever been on, Calfee being the best, but its REAL close. I was worried that the Solist would come in this week and I would have buyers remorse, or at least a bigger dent in my wallet.

I generally dont put much stock in a frame because they’re all good after a point. I’ve been on so many bikes that just didn’t really do much for me but this 2.5 frame is REALLY nice.

If you were looking at getting the Soloist and have you deposit locked into a Cervelo, take a look at the 2.5. Well worth the extra $. I’m very glad I got it.

I ordered mine (frameset/fork only) the end of October and picked it up March 12th. It wouldn’t have done me much good to have gotten it sooner as it has been such a crappy winter here in Mass. It was well worth the wait.

nice bike…but goddamn that seatpost looks goofy.

Ditto.

Yeah,

that is the one and only thing I dislike with the Cervelo bikes. The look incredible, but then you change the seatpost and that is it. But anyway, it is the only brand selling bikes with working seatpost flips! Surely it looks strange, we have never seen them before.

I am still wondering what to do about it? Has anyone got an idea?

Ride it like hell, once on it, you can’t see it!

Goofy seatpost? Count yourself lucky you have enough people riding behind you to notice such a thing… me, I have no critics

Couldn’t agree more with the abormal seat post comment. Never understood that about Cervelo. I’m sure they have their reasons, probably for economy in numbers, but why do you have to have a forward seatpost on a tri frame? If it’s a tri frame, it should put you in that position naturally, and if you need more setback, use a post with setback. The post for the P3C seems to address this in a bit more “pleasing to the eye fashion”, but it still needs a forward post for a tri geometry.

In my case, the top tube is too long on most tri-specific bikes. My choices were this, a softride, or a custom frame. I wasl eaning towards a P2K originially, but after getting measured was told I was “not even close” to fitting on one.

Valid point. But there are a few companies out there, Guru for one, who will do custom geometry VERY inexpensively.

I’m looking to spec my bike out a lot like Demerly’s R2.5.

I wanted something versatile for casual road riding, maybe some road racing though I doubt it, long training and the occasional triathlon. I’m going to keep the drops, maybe change the stem, and add a Fizik Arione, some VT shorties and Ksyriums.

I can’t wait. That frame paint is frickin’ sweet too. To me, nothing beats matte black and silver.

Yes, guru (custom) or softride were the other possibilities offered by the fitter. The custom guru would have actually have been a little cheaper. (probably would have been delivered sooner…) I went with the soloist so that I have the option of converting to a road setup.

hehe…not gonna lie…i’ve got a forward post on my Chron’Alu (GURU)…

but i’m also riding somewhere around 81 degrees…so this is needed (as well…the frame is a touch too big for me…so i can’t get far enough forward with a normal post)

Another vote for Guru. They do a great, on-time and not so expensive job with custom frames. Working with a great local bike shop and fitter (Eric at Bicycle World in Mt. Kisco, NY!) you’ll get the perfect frame for you.

Dont go there mate, otherwise you might be outed as the new orang utan! I got into this with Gerard last week on a discussion about marketing, I did not bother pushing the issue.

In fairness to Cervelo: I, along with others, told everyone this would happen numerous tmes during the past nine months. As with all previous years, no one listened to our begs, pleas and admonishments to buy a bike in October. Or September. No one listened to our prediction of labor problems, fuel costs or increased security at ports. No one listened. They never do. They blame and throw their toys. This is not (as I understand it, and my understanding comes from several sources) an issue with Cervelo at all. Not in the least. It is centered around a labor dispute in the port of Vancouver that I mentioned on this forum five weeks ago. I don’t think it is fair to label Cervelo as the party responsible for the delay (if that is what is happening) or bail on purchases from them becasue of a labor strike. We’re all in the same boat. I’m waiting, you’re waiting. The majority of my day is now occupied with the seasonal “Where’s my bike?” call- a question I answered last year.

I don’t mean to say “I told you so”, but guys, I told you so a long time ago and I’m not the lone ranger here. Empfield had an article discussing (and to a degree, debunking) the shimano shipment delays on this website months ago.

I sincerely empathize with your frustration over delivery delays, but remember, Cervelo and other bike vendors are not responsible for this. It’s unfair, in my opinion, to hold them accountable.

Would that also affect delivery of a frameset? Say… a R2.5 Team in 51 or 54 cm? Huh, Huh?
