I will be using them as race wheels only. I am leaning toward the Bontragers b/c I love the R4 aero tire and have used it for the last few years. what would you choose and why? I was hoping some people have some experience with some of these wheels sets to chime in.
I have a Bontrager 7 and 9 also have a 404 (also have a zipp disc and 808’s). Your using these on just front wheel? Or both wheels? I like them all depending on conditions. The 404 handles best in the wind by far; the 7 handles better then the 808. So much different data out there hard to know which is “fastest” i guess. My basic selection process when choosing front wheel has been wind 0-5mph its the 808, wind 6-15 mph its the Bontrager 7, winds 15+ its the 404. I have found the zipps break better then the Bontrager.
I used to R4 tire for a month but had like 4 flats in the month and have since gone back to my normal tires. There is my 2 cents.
Of those, and if I were looking for an all around wheel for road and front tt use, I would do the 404fc. I have owned these and believe that they were the best braking of any carbon clinchers I have ridden.
With so much different data, who is one to believe? I 5hink the 404’s are a cwnt miss but I really wanted to believe Treks whitepaper that place their wheels faster than Zipps. I am just not sure it is real.
Is part of the data you’ve incorporated into your decision the warranty? Because I’m thinking Enve is every bit as aero as all those wheels (all good wheels you’ve listed by the way) and has, perhaps twice the warranty.

tour magazine does a pretty good job
Zipp’s do well in their tests!
But HED is very close, and has a metal braking surface.
awesome. Thanks! It’s interesting to see how close HED and Zipp are. That should put to rest the debate over carbon clincher vs carbon/alumnium hybrid. The differences are very small
Since I’m not fluent in German…can we assume that since the Zipp 808 + Disc appears to be the baseline, the HED Jet 9 + Disc is 1.5 Watts slower at 35 km/hr (21.7 mph) than the Zipps?
yes.
dont recall what sort of yaw distribution they were doing either.
Also the first test was bike + dummy
2nd test was just bike
