The genius of Weird Al

Weird Al has a song titled, “Bob” and is sung mimicking/mocking Bob Dylan’s style as well as his harmonica virtuosity. It even mocks the lyrical styling of Dylan’s songs with what sounds like a bunch of strung together nonsensical phrases. However, my daughter revealed to me that the song goes much deeper than a superficial mockery of Dylan. The lyrics:

I, man, am regal a German am I
Never odd or even
If I had a hi-fi
Madam, I’m Adam
Too hot to hoot
No lemons, no melon
Too bad I hid a boot
Lisa Bonet ate no basil
Warsaw was raw
Was it a car or a cat I saw?

Rise to vote, sir
Do geese see God?
“Do nine men interpret?” “Nine men,” I nod
Rats live on no evil star
Won’t lovers revolt now?
Race fast, safe car
Pa’s a sap
Ma is as selfless as I am
May a moody baby doom a yam?

Ah Satan sees Natasha
No devil lived on
Lonely Tylenol
Not a banana baton
No “x” in “Nixon”
O, stone, be not so
O Geronimo, no minor ego
“Naomi”, I moan
“A Toyota’s a Toyota”
A dog, a panic in a pagoda

Oh, no! Don Ho!
Nurse, I spy gypsies – run!
Senile felines
Now I see bees I won
UFO tofu
We panic in a pew
Oozy rat in a sanitary zoo
God! A red nugget! A fat egg under a dog!
Go hang a salami, I’m a lasagna hog

That’s impressive.

I just returned from NJ, and Weird Al has a regular weekly gig on LBI. If anyone is interested.

I met Weird Al in the bar of the Madonna Inn in San Luis Obisbo a couple of years ago. He was walking around with a video camera interviewing random people. He asked me about my shoes.

Weird guy.

Didn’t I post that here a few years ago, not as a song, but as part of the world’s longest (whatever the name of those things are)? It looks very familiar.

Yep. Search for “Anyone care to guess”, there it is. Al’s busted like Biden.

Yep, every line’s a palindrome.

you make this stuff up, right?

I kid you not. Weird Al is a Cal Poly SLO alum and goes back there a lot to do shows. I drive 101 from SF to LA a lot and the Madonna Inn is my favorite pit stop.

Pit Stop at Madonna Inn? Probably just to take joy peeing into the waterfall, right?
