The Forge, JSA, and other gun folks - supplier advice

So next year I move to Montana, and would like to get back to target shooting, particularly free pistol.

So I found a NOS item on cheaper than dirt.

I have read a lot of bad reviews on ammo sales, but how are these guys on hardware? I have seen a number of similar models on other sites but these guys are about 2/3 of those pricing.

Basically I could grab this and put on a set of Rink or Morini grip for what others want for just the firearm in the same condition.

The specific listing is here - http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/product/7-GHG3240V

These things are getting rarer and I really can’t afford the cost of a modern unit as an amateur.

So - are these folks legit our should I keep looking?

Oh and you are free to rib me for buying the most useless firearm for the zombie apocalypse.

CTD has a notoriously bad reputation for customer service. If you search for online reviews, they get slammed pretty good in that regard. But, personally, I do not get it. I have ordered quite a few items from CTD and have never had any issues. Off the top of my head, I can think of about a half dozen ammo purchases, at least 3-4 magazine purchases, an EOTech unit, and a few holsters. I have had nothing but good experiences with them. I would not hesitate to use them again.

Thanks man. I am pretty familiar with online reviews and that negative reviews outweigh positive since those that are pissed will post, while those that are good with the deal often don’t.

I also figured a one time purchase like this might be better than consumables like ammo, though they they ad advertise it as used and there it’s no way it was ever fired. Basically it is surplus Olympic supply.
If other comments come back positive I will pick it up soon.

So as a Canuck, this is my welcome to America statement.

Are you going to be joining a club or facility? Once you get into the mix of a club you will not only find tons of stuff, but get to try it out and know the people who owned/maintained it. It’s no different than the tri crowd they are always upgrading, tweaking etc. I don’t look anywhere else but my local network. Like a lot of things if you get into the mix and show a desire to learn and whatnot people will take you under their wing and I’d not be surprised if someone gave you a great deal or even some rigs to try out while you get your bearings.

Unfortunately free pistol is a very small community. So yes there is a range I will join but I would be very surprised if there were other free pistol shooters.
If I stayed with bullseye, which is what I used to shoot in Canada, it would be easier as there is a larger community. But, and this is me being a bit snobbish/stupid, I really hate that the nra has allowed scopes for bullseye. There was a definite skill to learning open site.
There just aren’t that many people shooting single shot.22 with open sites and a quarter pound trigger pull.

No prob understanding that…you are talking to a guy who has been hunting deer with iron sights the past 20+ years.

Spent a couple thousand or more with them over the years. Problems arose about two or three years ago. They pissed a lot of people off when they suspended ar15 sales after newtown only to resale. They always had great ammo prices but the Obama scare made it so even they couldn’t be to cheap so they switched to a warehouse scheme where if your order comes from multiple warehouses you pay multiple shipping costs. Almost got caught on that three weeks ago. Shipping was a third of my costs. This scheme rubbed many, including myself the wrong way. Seems to me you just price it in the cost. But if you are aware of that they can be cheaper and they have it. I’ve never had customer service issues with them. And I’ve talked with their people on the phone a couple times. They require an ID on file to mail ammo, or did when I started buying ammo from them a long time ago. Once you order from them, you will get their catalog. It is interesting to say the least. Where else can you buy a NBC suit, a camping stove, air raid siren, an inert RPG and used parachute all in one place

Don’t believe me, check this out.

Weird, they don’t have anymore NBC suits. Probably sold out from the Ebola scare. But you can still get this. http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/product/MLT-9205 and this
