.

So if you sit on the sofa you will die and if you are active you will die. Ok not really but I’ll take the risk.

Its Thursday. Isn’t Thursday supposed to be “Should I Shave My Legs” day? I don’t think we are scheduled to discuss water deaths again until Friday.

Oh wait I think you’re right. I lost track of who I am and where I was and what day it was after I purchased my fake id.

Everyone dies.

Everyone dies.

But not everyone really lives…

“Everybody gotta die sometime” (Sgt. Barnes in the movie Platoon)

Oops, sorry wrong thread.

Where did I go wrong?

  • drinking morning coffee
  • read article about swimming deaths during triathlon on Outside’s web site
  • think that article lacks any real facts but still interesting
  • think that I will post on a tri website because others may find it interesting
  • decide to post on ST thinking it will stimulate some intelligent discussion <<< OK, OK I see where I went wrong!!

Everyone dies.

But not everyone really lives…
It may take our lives…
but it’ll never take…

OUR FREEDOM!!!

I looked at the USAT study from a few years back. 1 death per 76,000 participants, very close to death rate in marathons. SIPE gets a mention.

Thus I will continue to tri.

Where’s the news story on how many people die on their couch?

We all got it coming, kid.- William Munny
.

yeah, it doesn’t end up saying much, does it? SIPE might explain some of those deaths - say it’s half. they say that ~31 people have died in tri swims between 2003 and 2011. so that would be 15 deaths in 9 years.

nobody wants mortality in our sport, but at some point you need to establish that it’s excess mortality in order for it to be something we can meaningfully address. a car running an intersection during a race and hitting a rider is an excess death; a guy who was a ticking time-bomb and suddenly finds that his number’s up would have been just as likely to die in T2 as waiting for a bus.

since it can’t really be screened for, i think this is something that you just have to chalk up to being a side-effect of triathlon’s growing popularity, for the time being. that, and a good reason to hire more lifeguards.

Suicide by sugar.

Do an internet search on spontaneous combustion. It is real!

that’d burn my ass, just sitting on the couch eating McNuggets and catch on fire. You know that’s
got to be the all time WTF moment.
