I read the editorial, and thoroughly enjoyed it. However, I would caution you to be careful with Ian. Remember that no matter how intelligent and educated he is, he’s still a high school student. In my years in journalism (first as a full time writer and editor, and now as a part-time writer), I have come across many teenagers who had a good grasp of the written word. But they were still teenagers. Any time you are working with teenagers, you must be very careful and double-check their work. A good example of this is “thrown” as opposed to “throne” in your article. That immediately jumped out at me when I read it. Embarrassing mistakes like that are easy to make (I have made them many times, and I continue to do so), but editors are there to make sure such mistakes do not make it into print.
Writing and editing can be taught, but these skills also take years and years to properly develop. I’m not saying that your new editor won’t do a good job, but keep in mind that he is still a youngster.
