The dreaded, fall over at the stop sign

Well I did for the second time. Pull up to a red light towards the end of my long ride this weekend and forgot to get my feet out of the pedals. Fell over like a fallen tree 2 feet from a car full of teenagers. I thought they were going to pee themselves laughing and pointing.

I guess there’s really nothing you can do to save your digity at that point. Thankfully the light changed and they drove off (still laughing)

…at least you weren’t so preoccupied trying to get your feet out of the pedals that you failed to notice your garage door was dangerously close. That’s a heckuva way to announce that your’re back from your ride! Of course, that’s NOT experience speaking there…

I think I can rival just about any failure-to-unclip story. Mine was right in front of the guy holding the stop sign at a construction zone. I toppled over into a roadside mud puddle. The worker raised his radio and commented to the guy on the other end, “You’re not going to believe this…” He was kind enough to rotate his sign to “Slow” soon thereafter so I could slink off.

If you sit there and think about it, it must be a hilarious sight to a non-cycler/tri-er to see someone attached to their pedals fall over. It is funny enough as a person who knows what is happeneing but it could be downright hilarious if you have no clue and see someone just fall over sideways.
