The Dr Tigerchik thread

@GFD how are you?

Botox today and I need it. The headaches are low grade but have been constant the last few days. My neck is good and my elbows are improving but still painful when I try to sleep. Overall I feel stronger and better on a consistent basis than I have in three years.

How are you feeling?

I’m okay ish. Happily have the house to myself for NYE - I am in desperate need of peace and quiet and that’s been hard to get. But I have it tonight!

I hope you had a peaceful pain free night. Happy New Year! This one is going to be a lot better than the last two.

I’m not willing to share specific details publicly but still having tests and treatments. Overall making some progress. How’s @GFD ? @Tom_hampton how is your wife?

I am glad to hear you are making progress. Good luck with the tests and treatments.

I had a setback with my lower back the last few days and it really flared up this morning. But my neck and elbows are feeling pretty good so I can’t complain. I do not remember doing anything specifically to aggravate my L4 and L5. They are degenerated so I guess it was their turn to make their presence known this week. I rested most of today so tomorrow will be a better day.

She’s been doing well. These injections typically work like magic for a couple months, then it’s the slow return to reality until she gets to the point she wants another….usually every 6ish months. Once it gets down to every 3 months or so, we will have to consider other options like a spinal fusion of some number of vertebrae.

She had 3 cervical vertebrae fused about 10 years ago.
But, for now it’s still working.

Hope your tests reveal something useful.

how are you today, @GFD ? hope the rest paid off.

I did a few bar hangs last night and got my lower back to pop. I had a pretty good night. This morning it was the same pain level as yesterday. It isn’t bad but weight training or the stepsister would be a bad idea. I did a light 30 minute spin, a lot of stretching, and a few sets of abs. I hope you are feeling good today. Thank you for asking and have a great Friday and weekend.

Stepsister?

Stairmaster not stepsister. That was an interesting autocorrect.

How are you feeling today, @Dr_Tigerchik ?

My back is feeling much better but I had a humbling moment this morning when I helped carry a new exterior soon into my garage. My grip is so weak I thought I might drop it. If that is my biggest problem going forward will take it.

Hello. I have undiagnosed nerve pain in my feet and just read your post and thought that it seemed a lot like my issue and just wondered how you managed to help your nerve pain go away? I’m a runner and a hiker and have had this for 8 months (can’t believe I am saying that). What helped you? Thanks

I am no expert at handling nerve pain but I do know you are going to need to get it diagnosed so your doctor can find the cause.
My nerve pain is centered in my elbows and hands and it is because my nerves in my C2 through C7 are putting pressure on the nerve endings. I had cervical disc fusion surgery to help the e issue and it was mostly successful. I will most likely need another surgery to fix the remaining issues. In the meantime, I am getting an epidural every 3-4 months and tryin gym best to strengthen the area.

Other than this I do not really know what to tell you. Nerve pain is not fun and the sooner you get it diagnosed the sooner you will be able to formulate a plan.

@Hikerun, gabapentin and pregabalin helped. Surgeries to release entraped nerves helped. You need to get it diagnosed - you want an EMG. Keep us updated, ok? I MEAN THAT!

@GFD doing alright today. you?

@Dr_Tigerchik glad to hear you are having a good day.

I feel better today than I have in a week. When I exercised I felt strong, except for my grip.

Im not having much luck with any kind of imaging or test that proves it. How was was your recovery? Are you able to be active now? Before surgery did you use gabalin to stay active?

I was on gabapentin, in varying dosages, for three years. IT definitely helped and it also took some time for my body to adapt to the way it made me feel. For example, I would take it once I got to work rather than before because I did not feel comfortless driving when if first took affect. I was also dealing with a pretty major post concussion recovery at the time, so take that into consideration.

Ive been on amitriptalene only which definitely helped. Made me so tired in the evening though and I almost became a zombie! Now I can tolerate it a lot more. Hard to know whether you are doing more damage though under the drug - did you have this concern?
