At the recent Chattanooga BMW Waterfront Tri (82 degrees, non wetsuit race) I noticed a guy wearing DeSoto Speedtubes and realized also that he was in my age group. The guy ended up not doing that well, but I think it is still wrong.
Was it a USAT race? If yes, it was illegal and you should ask the RD what was going on.
If not, buy a pair if that is all the RD is doing to make a fair race.
I saw that guy too. I bet he was ROASTING! While you are figuring this out, see if you can get the results pulled of the male master with a 48 minute bike split and the male beginner with the 38 minute split. Obviously neither of them did the full course.
Many of the non wetsuit races still allow compet…er…participants to wear wetsuits but doing so renders them ineligible to win an award. Do you know this not to be the case here?
I saw a guy at the Buter Britton race last month using Speedtubes. What do you do? Waste 10 minutes right before the start finding a race official or shrug it off and worry about your own race? More than likely he knew what he was doing and knew that nobody would bother him about it unless they knew he was a podium contender.
The bad thing is this race was a TT start and somebody was there at the line 5 feet away from you to tell you to go. If they didn’t stop him, they either don’t know or don’t care. The race was put on by the same group. I’m not going to call somebody out on the interwebs, but there’s a picture of him on the swim exit from the Buster Britton race.
If you recall his race number you could check to see if he placed or was penalized. The TM “officials” know the difference, but I would be willing to bet that the vast majority of the wonderful volunteers that were there didn’t know. They may have thought it was some kind of speedsuit that Nike or Speedo makes.
