Lets take a walk down memory lane to the 90’s.
We are trying not too
This was an object of lust as I started racing - I settled on a Klein Aeolus with the Durache build and Spinners.
Ok, but what kind of pace are we talkin about in that 58-11 gear?
A lot more watts and speed than I’ve got in my legs. Someone smarter can give you a better answer.
I have never seen anything to make me believe this Cadex frame or the Ku frame are anything special.
Have you ridden them?
The Ku TF1 IS pretty special. I would love to give the Cadex a go, but have not had the opportunity.
Pros will often get over a 95k an hour on steep downhills. And if there are turns where a lot of braking is required, then they have to peddle back up to speed a lot, thus needing a pretty big gear. The same for the little one, their pace is not your pace so the gear is usually plenty and often even a bail out gear just in case. They are not using these on the flats or rolling of course, but in different parts of this course absolutely needed.
On a flat AZ ironman course they would lose the bottom 4 gears and the top 1 probably. A super tight one tooth range just to account for tail and head winds…
No but I’ve ridden a number of bikes over the past 2 decades and they all just feel like bikes to me.
They aren’t special, they are special or different looking but if you ride them they are like other bikes. I have ridden both extensively, they have both different features but in the end they ride like just other bikes.
They aren’t faster then other top bikes, if you like the look of a bike that is different they might appeal to you. But all the talk about how they are more aero then other frames is just plain fat bs, and i have aero test results on both bikes from several riders and myself.
Don’t get me wrong, both are good bikes but nothing more special then other good bikes, you just nee to look what fit’s you best and works for you fit wise.

if weight is not an factor ( which mostly it is not, apart from Nice and some other courses )
That’s what I meant.
And they’re both ugly to look at.
Way most important.
I was pretty dang close to getting a Cadex frameset earlier this year but read a few stores about the frame cracking at the bottom of the seat post. For long course it does have nice storage and a face only a mother could love.
It does have that.
There were a few that had that issue, but that was solved already in the 2nd production batch. No problems on that point after that on any of the bikes.
