The Cervelo clothing: First look

Man, we got a TON of clothing in today from a bunch of vendors.

One of the standouts are Cervelo’s new stuff. The sizes run pretty true- I take a medium in their long course tri top which is pretty consistent (although in Sugoi I take an XL!).

We’re tyring the different pieces on now as we price them and put them out. Overall, the stuff seems pretty darn nice.

So if I’m coming to your store to buy a race suit, there is a probability one of your sweaty mechanics already tried it on =P
.

Actually freestyle, we have been considering the idea of putting a little 20 year old cosmetology student named Rachel in some of it for the website. She’s quite fetching in the white one piece suit.

I tried some on too, and I assure you I’m quite clean. I even smell like Hugo Boss. No extra charge.

You know the rule Demerly - Pics or she doesn’t exist.

yeah, yeah… I’m on it.

Hup, Hup, Hup.

Guy’s, relax… The stuff I tried on I kept. It’s too nice to give back.

Tom,

What is the MSRP on the Magnum TT/Tri top? Did your guys have any thoughts on that?

Keith

We do have the Magnun TT tri top and it is a very nice piece. Our model liked it better than anything else she tried on. We have it on the floor for about $70 but we have a good introductory coupon on our webiste for in store sales.

Tom,

Would you recommend their tri tops? I am looking for something that is comfortable to wear on the swim and run… a lot of the tri tops end up being too tight on me in medium and then if I go to a large too loose and tend to flap during the bike.

thanks

jonathan

I have tried them on but we just go them on the floor yesterday. I haven’t run or ridden in them but I will. Based on our early exposure to the tops, yes- I would not hesitate to race in them. As a matter of fact- this is among the better triathlon clothing I have seen.

Good fabric, better fit, nice patterns and nice looking too.I think Cervelo may have a winner on their hands. The only drawback is that the clothing is labelled “Cervelo” and people associate that brand with bicycles now, not clothing. So consumers who do not own a Cervelo brand bicycle may hesitate to buy it, which would be a shame.

Ultimately, I think the clothing will stand on its own- it is typical excellent Cervelo quality. The people at Cervelo did a nice job on this.

I concur. It’s really nice stuff. I’ve looked around for a good tri top and tried the Cervelo stuff on for the first time today. I was sold.

Nice, lightweight material that would seemingly be good in hotter weather. Good shoulder coverage and the length seemed adequate.

I won’t get to race in it until my 1/2 in May, but I’m glad that I finally found something that fits well! Now if I could just find some tri shorts that I like (the Cervelo shorts fit ok, but had an 8" inseam - I’m looking for something a tad shorter).

The reason for the 8" inseam is that the fabric is a compression fabric (to be exact a WICKING compression fabric), so the longer the inseam the more muscle it can support. This is the opposite of a normal tri short where the fabric does not offer compression, then there is no use for a long inseam as the fabric doesn’t really have a function on the legs. But aside from the compression, maybe the best feature of this tri short is that it has a tri-specific shamois instead of a fleece pad. Big difference in comfort on the bike, and it is so thin it dries very quickly and does not impede during the run at all.

Funny that Tom likes the Magnum TT top, I had to beg and plead for him to take them. So PLEASE, buy some off of him or I won’t hear the end of it :-). Personally I think it is the top that makes most sense, especially in hot weather. Super sun protection, the best wicking and best cooling (especially once the wicking has started).

As for the Cervelo logos, they are pretty small and most logos are just the “e” (including the pull tags) so I don’t think it will offend too many people, we did that on purpose so people don’t have to be riding a Cervelo to wear the stuff.

Gerard.

Ok how do I go about getting the Cervelo tri tops…would like to see colors, what the style is etc…I think you mentioned pockets in the rear? I tend to have a slightlly larger chest size for guys my size…5’7" 136 lbs which is why the tops tend to be a bit too snug for my comfort…I found the Zoot tri tops work pretty well and are fairly comfortable. Can you tell me if Cervelo runs small or large?

thanks

Well, we have had the phone ringing quite a few times with people asking for the Cervelo clothing and… what the heck… OK, we will ship it if we have your size in stock.

As long as this is acceptable to Gerard we are willing to sell it over the phone and help you with fit.

It may also have something to do with the alluring photo of our Bikesport girl, Angellaura, on our home page- even though she isn’t even wearing Cervelo clothes in the photo.

Haven’t seen the photos(s) yet…call me weird but I am much more interested in finding a couple of tops that will fit for me and allow me to wear em for the whole race without changing becasuae I am looking to speed up my transition times. I did Ralphs…first Half and had a great time. AFter looking at T1 and T2 I cringed at losing 10 minutes changing into a bike top and then a run top…yipe…

thanks

so its ok to call on the phone and order a couple of those tops…great…

thanks

(313) 278-1350 and ask for Mr. Mike Aderhold, he will be pleased to assit you with your order.

I am very surprised no one has mentioned putting the “Going Long” ad directly below the photo of your clothing model…wait a minute, I just did.

The Sugoi one piece is an excellent tri suit. The fabric is nice but the sizing is very unusual. You have to try it on.

The Cervelo clothing runs absolutely true to size based on our limited experience over the last 24 hours. Tha fabric and pattern as well as flat-lock stitching on the Cervelo one piece are unique and super nice. We should have photos of Angellaura modeling this stuff up in a few days or less (she is the Bikesport girl in the upper right hand corner of our website). You will be able to get a look at it then if you haven’t seen it.

Obviously, since we just received it, I have not raced or trained in the Cervelo clothing yet. I’ve deliver the report when I do.

BTW, the flatlock stiching is not because it looks good, but because it leaves a nicer finish on the inside so it does not irritate the skin. As for the looks, as we await Bikesport Michigan’s photos “with tension” (as Giant would say) there are photos on http://www.cervelo.com/apparel
