Anyone know what BB software is used for this forum? Anyone have any recommendations on BB software? I have used YaBB in the past. Setting up a BB on a website… Thanks.
this looks to be gossamer forum, from gossamer-threads.com. they’ve been writing good, cheap software for ages.
phpBB has more functionality and a very active community for plugins, security updates, etc, if you have the time to customize it, it can do truly amazing things. price is better, too. ![]()
if what you actually want is more of a community portal a la slashdot, etc, drupal is incredible. you need some real programming knowledge, but it’s a phenomenal platform for just about any kind of multi-user site you could possibly envision.
full disclosure: i help run a noncommercial web hosting venture at vesana.com. i’ve written some basic patches for drupal, though i don’t consider myself a developer per se. i’ve also written academic papers on drupal, using it to illustrate the thesis that the future of the web lies in separating content and delivery- so an interactive forum can be email, rss, web, etc etc while relating to the same data. i’ve also installed phpbb literally hundreds of times, so it’s where my expertise lies.
Unsure of ST…but have good luck with vBulletin Version 2.3.2
One my fellow accounting students set up a phpBB forum for our class. He said it was easy to set up and run. Avatars, smileys, stickey and hot threads, the works. Yeah, I know, how much traffic can an accounting forum get? Hey, we’re losers–but one day I’ll be processing your payroll check, so shut up.

I also recommend phpbb. There are simple portal frontends available for it. For a good example, check www.mmba.org
