I think Jon Stewart and Keith Olberman would have to square off first before they go for the title fight.
Rush could beat the shit out of both of those guys, at the same time, with half of his brain tied behind his back “just to make it fair.”
Seriously. I am talking about a real contender that the libs could match up with Rush…
I hope Stewart doesn’t take on Rush because I’m afraid Stewart might be arrested for child abuse for taking on such a feeble opponent. Stewart has 100x the balls of a man who didn’t even have the guts to buy his own drugs - he had to send his housemaid out to do it. Stewart would wipe the floor with Rush like a used dish towel.
Interesting question, Olberman would be a weaker opponent, because he plays the liberal version of Rushbo’s game. Stewart would be much tougher to pin down, because he doesn’t come swinging from the far left corner (notwithstanding the outlandish Coulter/Stewart comparison on a recent thread). The harshest critique of Limbaugh is not his ideology (which I heartily oppose), but that his unrelenting partisan attack style (perfected over the decades, and imitated by many) has done a great deal to poison political discourse and divide this country.
Furthermore, the premise of your battle scenario points out the dilemma of the Republican Party, i.e. their most articulate voices have the most extreme viewpoints. We all know that a very skillful debater can win virtually any argument WITHOUT BEING CORRECT. Limbaugh exemplifies this perfectly. At various times over the years, I have listened to his show (as much as I can stand). He is sharp and funny, and he skillfully packages his message. Moreover, his show is carefully crafted to further his positions: news is carefully culled, callers are screened, straw men arguments are set up. Outside of his bubble, his arguments are not nearly as strong.
So basically this was a post to declare you male fantasy to submit to Rush. How nice. The dems are mopping up on him right now, I’m not so sure you want to put in kitchen stadium with Moriomoto let alone Bobby Flay. I’ll even take Richard Steele in a two out of three.
Since I don’t listen to extremists on either side, I can’t name an equivalent to Rush on the left. There are some liberal “talking heads” that have the balls to go up against Rush, such as James Carville.
In all fairness to the conservatives, Rush would not be a good pick. There’s a reason why he doesn’t have guests on his show. Rush is a radio shock jock for a reason. He has to be in complete control of the conversation.
Better choices for your side would be Hannity, Coulter, or O’Riley, and probably a handful of conservative journalist like Brit Hume or Mike Wallace, and maybe someone like Newt Gingrich.
As far as who would be good debating for the left, John Stewart and Bill Maher (but not Franken or Moore), Chris Mathews, Bill Clinton and Barak Obama (not Al Gore).
I think Newt Gingrich would be a better choice than Rush. Rush is to shrill. I have seen a bit of Newt and he can be very pursuasive and non-condescending, unlike Rush.
For the left, difficult to find someone stronger in debates than Bill Clinton.
“Just do something!” The worst phrase in the human language. Don’t think, don’t debate, don’t study just do it! It doesn’t matter what you or if it is effective you just have to do something.
