maybe i’m biased because i followed graam religiously, and gordo describes the baron as superhuman … or maybe i’m biased because of imnz
either way, i have this feeling that ironmanlive’s coverage of the rivalry between argentinians and brazilians will be a competition for 2nd place, and clas will simply own, as they say.
Ok … I should have done my research before posting. Apparently Walton is recovering from injuries and will not be towing the line in Brasil. So that said I think Clas has a very good chance at winning.
It looks like this is going to be a very fast race. If the times on IMlive are right, Olaf passed 120k at under 3:40 into the race. With a 53 minute swim + transition estimate this puts him at a sub 4:15 bike split pace according to my estimate, and Olaf can run, if his achilles is OK.
Is this possible, 4:33 into the race and they only have 25km to go on the bike? This will get them in under 5:10. Olaf is certianly capable of a sub 2:50 marathon. Don’t know about Galindez but I believe he is a pretty good runner also. This could be a great race.
Gary will be proud as the photo of Olaf on IM live clearly shows him to be riding rotors. He will, of course take all the credit even though Olaf has been training on PC’s for a couple of years. Oh well. . .
Is the run course the same as the last couple of years? If so it is accurate - and painful with a series of damn sharp hills after around 12k lasting for around 3k - then you go down them on the way back at around 32 odd k - which is killer!!
I was there the year Spencer won with Lothar taking second and (i think) sturla 3rd with Raynard 4th…really quick race that year - if I recall Raynard in 4th was around 8:23 - also recall those hills are absolutely murder on the way back!! The year before that the bike course was 5k short and was corrected the next year - did I mention those hills on the run???
