I would say 2…just curious as to your thoughts.
The average “person” probably does 0.00000001 HIM in their whole lifetime
If I can ever learn to swim and breathe and complete my first sprint I’ll already be way ahead of the average person… but still far behind the average triathlete.
I’m not sure there’s a correct answer for this one. Everyone has their preference to race distance, so is there really an “average” person when it comes to race distances? Me, I like to do 3-4 per season.
The average person?

There aren’t that many triathletes doing that many 1/2’s to bring the annual average for a world of 6+ billion people to 2. You think worldwide 1/2 IM registration last year was 12 billion?
2 Sounds Good as that is what I have done the past 2 out of 3 years. Last year Placid screwed me up and I could only do one.
Rockman and Spirit of Racine in 2008
OK…let me rephrase. The average* triathlete* who likes the 1/2 ironman distance.
I’ve done five in a season. Three is more normal. Probably two this year though.

I have been doing 2. Would be 3 if no IM.
Two Oly’s ; two HIM’s and one full distance.
Looks average to me but my wife says it’s a mid-life crise.
For you to juge
i think it would be best put as the number of half ironmans an average triathlete who races half ironmans does in a season/year. if so, i’d say two is a reasonable number.
i know a lot of triathletes who don’t race that distance at all, though, so if you include those, i’d say the number is closer to 0.5-1 in my area.
I’ll see your five and raise you one.
My guess, though for average per year, would be closer to 1. There just aren’t that many half IMs around in the first place.
I would consider myself avg and I have 3 for this year.
Kurt Kinetic half, but that will just be used as a first race of the season tune up/fitness evaluation after being stuck inside all winter.
TTT half, but after friday and saturday it will probably be just survival and not racing.
Mountaineer in WV, which is my only real half I am hoping to ‘race’ for a PB.
Plus I’m doing an olympic and maybe a sprint or two thrown in here and there.
If it wasn’t for IMWI I would probably throw in one more half.
I think the answer depends greatly on the question. If you are asking how many 1/2s a slowtwitcher does per year, I’m guessing that number is very different than what an average 1/2 IM triathlete does each year. Since you posted this on slowtwitch, I’m assuming you want to know how many the average slowtwitcher does each year.
I only do 1 a year but I’m guessing the range on here is from 0-12 and the average(for those that do 1 or more) is 2.5.
I’ve done 4.
Probably do 5 this year.

I would say 2. I’m only doing one this year because my own wedding gets in the way. Three sprints and two olympic distance races over the rest of the season.
I’m going to go with 5 this season, Alex.
Sorry, “What is the number 5?”
I’ve gotten 1 done already this season. I MAY do one more.
So 2 at most. The majority of the people I train with who do 1/2’s are only doing 1-2 a year.
I am doing 4 this year (I also did the same # last year)
.
I’m doing 4 this season… but that’s between Jan and November.
did you ever intend this thread to be anything other than a p*ssing contest?
