Water Conditions
Despite all the rain this year, LadyBird Lake is in great shape. The City of Austin has said that is is safe for swimming. Current water temperature is 82 degrees, but that temperature is expect to be 4 to 8 degrees cooler on race day when LCRA opens the dams to flush debris and raise the level of the lake by 1 ft for the race. We expect that the event will be wetsuit legal.
I hope there will be a swim, when I was in Austin in July Town Lake (now LadyBird Lake I guess) looked pretty rough. I’m not totally convinced that the water temp will be 78 degrees.
I’ll be there. I hope the weather cooperates though. The route looks like the same one as the CapTex Tri event this year
I think this bike route is a 3 loop route. Wasn’t Tex Cap a 4 lap? I wonder if they’ll get Mike Greer to measure the water temp?
I’ll be there as well. Since it looks like Dean will not dump much rain, I think Town Lake will be OK.
Umm, if they do a release, I am not sure it will pass the bacteria level testing. That was exactly what haapened at CapTex. In addition to the rain, there was a Dam release, whcih was a lot of the the brown mess you saw clogging the lake.
Great venue for a race, but a Dam release does not sound promising.
I think they always open the dam for CapTex to flush it. It shouldn’t be a problem. The dams are closed now and the water is barely moving - as usual. It’s nothing like it was a few weeks ago when we had whitewater!
