Green Day and Joan Jett & The Blackhearts. Really???
Green Day is about the 9,741st best punk band that has ever existed (but probably the most popular from an album sales point of view). Joan Jett, while cool as hell, hardly has the body of work worthy of any sort of accolades. Can anyone name one single Joan Jett & the Blackhearts’ song besides I Love Rock & Roll and their cover of Crimson and Clover? Yep, me neither.

Green Day? Wow. We could all name dozens of better punk options. Black Flag, Butthole Surfers, Meat Puppets, Dead Milkmen, Dead Kennedys. Come on, Green Day?

It’s the Rock & Roll Hall of FAME. FAME!!!
Green Day is more famous than any of those other bands.

Good point. I won’t complain next year when Weird Al is honored.

Plus American Idiot or Dookie probably sold more albums alone than all of those other bands did their entire careers combined. They are all great bands though.
“I hate myself for loving you”
“I don’t give a damn about my bad reputation”
Two just off the top of my head.
And Green Day and Joan Jett make a hell of a lot more sense than NWA. For the love of god…it’s called the “Rock and Roll” Hall of Fame, right?
Spot
Okay… forgot about those two. Nevertheless, four songs doesn’t make a HoF career. That’s like batting .350 one season in an otherwise mediocre career and going to Cooperstown.
NWA actually didn’t get in. We can debate a rap group in the R&R HoF all day long but the precedent had already been set with the inductions of Grandmaster Flash, Run DMC, and Public Enemy. NWA may not have invented hardcore gangsta rap (Ice-T a couple of year earlier) but NWA wrote the gangsta rap bible with Straight Outta Compton. Arguably the most influential rap album ever made.
Point taken. Except when you read the bio on the HOF website, it reads more of a bio of Joan Jett than of Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, you know mentioning her time with the Runaways and as a producer.

I’m not blind to the fact they just wanted Joan Jett in and didn’t want to deal with the BS of inducting Springsteen without the E-Street Band and having to later rectify it. By no means am I comparing the E-Street Band with The Blackhearts (couldn’t name one fucking guy in The Blackhearts as they were just three nameless and faceless dudes backing Joan Jett) but she was basically never really a “solo” artist.

As well you shouldn’t. That guy is a freakin genius.
It’s the hall of fame, not the hall of the best music.
More importantly, its the Hall of Fame, not the hall of “most authentic original sounding true to the hard core punk fans.”
In my personal opinion, Green Day absolutely deserved to get in. Its hard to name many bands that have put out the body of quality work that they have in the 90s and 2000s.
Having said that, I think the there bands that Steve listed are great bands, but they didn’t write for big markets, hence they don’t get in. Its
