That’s awesome! I love that music is not available for that “experience”.
My rowing coach always used to tell us that if we weren’t feeling like we were about to meet Jesus at the 1k mark, we weren’t pulling hard enough. In retrospect, I think that led to a lot of early blow ups. I think a more realistic time to prepare to meet Jesus is at the 500m to go mark. At that point, the discomfort should be substantial.
Cameron Buchan’s YouTube channel is a great resource if you get the bug and want to improve your time. He has “row along” videos where he holds various paces for the entirety of the 2k and coaches you through them, how you should feel at various stages, mental tips etc.
Sounds like hell actually. When I get back in the groove I’ll give it a go. Working through some joint issues and vacation set me back a bit overall. I’ll pick a date two weeks or so from now and plan accordingly.
Today, eased back in with a peloton circuit:
Tread: 30m hike
Bike: 20m intervals
Row: 20m intervals
Resting the joints and hoping tomorrow feels much better than today and yesterday.
50 minute spin. Zwift acting up again and I lost 25 minutes of my ride data. t/he issue must be my Apple TV box being outdated. I never have issues on my phone with the Companion app.
I decided to get off the bike and take a few days off. My back just won’t stop hurting and I just felt tired of pushing through the discomfort for so many days straight without much relief.
I made it 17 days in a row with 300 push ups and my elbows still feel great. So that is a win.
Heading to Cape May for the weekend with the kids to try something different. We have never rented an AIRBNB before and we never stayed in Cape May.
Cape May is the most southern point of New Jersey. It is a beautiful town with mostly Victorian era homes in the downtown section. It has one of the most diverse bird populations in the country as well as being a major fishing and clamming center. The US Coastguard training base is also located here. And there are dolphins everywhere.
Perfect weather. The ABNB is on a beautiful little alleyway next to a gorgeous neighborhood. It is a really nice place for the 5 of us. Beautiful weather yesterday and Friday. We went in the ocean for about 5 minutes. It was absolutely freezing. Great food and great beer as well.
My plan is to be comically underprepared and put the “if you’re gonna be dumb..” maxim to the test.
I suspect there’s a reason they do the wall ball squats (x100) last. I can’t imagine running after that, but it may be the one area I’m actually somewhat prepared for. My wife OTOH is focusing primarily on the run training while I’m doing everything but. Should be fun.
I wouldn’t skimp on the run training. Most of the event is running. I think your wife has the right idea. I would even imagine a few weeks of integrating 5x1km leading up to the event would really help.
Also re wall balls, I found a slightly wider stance and really sticking the ol booty out before you lower down helped increase the unbroken reps I could do dramatically. I guess that made it more of a glute focused squat than a quad focused one, as your quads will be completely fried.
It was the best weekend we have had in a long time and the first time my wife was able to really relax and enjoy herself in quite some time. It was a rough school year for her. But she only has two left until retirement. Here are a few more pictures. The 2nd and 3rd are of Congress Hall. Abraham Lincoln “vacationed” there during his presidency:
More great pics! Thanks! So lots of history there as well. That’s cool to see places where historical figures visited or lived.
That is cold! There is a tradition here to jump in the water on our May long weekend if out at a cabin or camping. Water can be 10C or so and many times the air temperature is not much warmer. One year the ice was off the lake at my brothers cabin. It was April 10th (maybe 11th?). That was cold!
