Just wanted to say thanks to John Cobb’s Bicycle Sports for their generous door prize donations at Powerman Alabama this past weekend. The male and female AG winners had their choice of a Computrainer 3D or a set of these Spinergys. Of course they both took the Computrainers, leaving the two wheelsets as doorprizes for the AGers.
And to turn this into somewhat of an informative post……I couldn’t resist tossing them on the balance here at work, not so much that I’m a “gram freak”….just curious to see how much, if any, they fudge their weights.
Congratulations on winning the wheelset. I was bummed that I didn’t win anything (I missed hardware in my AG by 19 seconds), at least it went to a Slowtwitcher.
I guess the fact that both male and female AG winners chose the Computrainers, answers the age old question of what will make you faster.

Yup. Obviously the wheels make you faster. If the AG winners already had CT’s, they wouldn’t have taken them. Since they took the CT’s implies that they did not have CT’s to begin with.
Thanks. Yeah, I missed AG hardware by a mile (a few minutes) and was quite disappointed with my performance, but I figured I had to stick around for the drawings. My g/f was actually waiting outside the gates during the awards, as she brought her dog with her (and I thought the no dogs rule applied on Sunday as well). Needless to say, walking out with the wheelset changed my attitude on the day…and I think she was happy that I had something to show for, after making her wait out there.
Cheryl is doing well, and her knee is all better. She did the Wistlestop since she hadn’t been able to train too much with her knee. She was 4th overall by just 2 seconds. She smoked everyone on the first run and then lost some time on the bike (we forgot to change her IM FLA cassette out). She came roaring back during the second run, but ran out of real estate.
We have made some changes to the carbon layup over the last year so the weight has varied slightly. The listed weight is 1620g for the pair. If I said 1540 it was either a typo or I was smoking crack again It was probably 1640g. Last year when we sent our catalog to the printer we had weights and estimated weights for 700c clinchers and tubulars and 650c clinchers and tubulars. When the printer suggested we cut down some of the text, we decided to list just the weight of the 700c clinchers. That was all that was available at the time. Some how it got lost in translation and the weight that was published was the 650c weight. We have made the changes to the website and on our new literature but my guess is that performance is using the catalog weights. I apologize for the confusion.
Took the wheels out for a spin yesterday and was very impressed. As expected, ride comfort is greatly improved over my training wheelset (Velocity). This could be a good thing for my herniated lumbar disc. Best comparison I can make is that it’s like going from the sport suspension on my Audi, back to the “cushy” stock suspension. They look just right on the B2…carbon rims, white lettering, white spokes–very sharp. Awesome, thanks again JC and BicycleSports.
