The power of this forum was shown this year at Ironman LP. About one year ago someone posted info about a program I had started called Race 4 Kids. The program was designed to raise money for Childhood Cancer in honour of our daughter Elizabeth who continues to receive treatment at Sick Kids in Toronto. With over half of our group coming from ST we had 40 athletes compete at IMLP and raise over $150,000.00. The success of the event has us planning for 2008 but details still need to be worked out. I was one of the participants this year. It was wonderful to be part of this group raising funds for such a worthy cause. I didn’t need the LP entry since I had already signed up. I just wanted to be part of the group and to do something more than just race. Having to raise this money allowed me to reach out to friends and family that I don’t usually keep in touch with. It was great to include all of these folks in my IM prep and race. I wouldn’t have done that without the fundraising challenge.
The Race4Kids folks are a great bunch. For anyone who wants to add another dimension to their training and racing, then I would definitely recommend Race4Kids.
Congratulations on a fantastic effort, your athletes competed and placed very well, while doing do so for a cause, great to see. We’ve already chatted briefly by email, I’m hoping to be with you guys in 2008.
