Testing a P2 vs. a P2C--what difference should I expect?

I’ve managed to get my hands on both an old P2 (of which I am a former owner–thanks HH) and a new P2C that a friend’s wife let me borrow because she is having back problems. Would anyone care to hazard a guess what kind of difference I ought to see in a 20K trial with the same average wattage? I’m also comparing it to my other tri frame (Yaqui) that has an aero down tube (26 mm width) but normal other tubes and a Ouzo Pro (not aero fork) with regular round base bar. The other two have VT bars a la Cancellara.
On four of my previous five runs on the Yaqui I have recorded times within 28 seconds of each other, so I’m hoping another six or seven will give me a good starting point for comparison.

How are you getting the same wind?

The Jolly Green Giant stands out the to West of Twentynine Palms and blows a nice constant 10 mph wind every evening–or at least that is how it seems these days. It seemed to be working until this morning when I was a minute 30 slower at the same power output. I figure if I do it 10 or 20 times I’ll toss the highs and lows and come up with something usable.
BTW, you have any spots open for a temporary coaching stint until late fall? I think I need a grumpy old man to tell me I don’t know what I am doing in training.
Chad

All full, sorry. Also not big on “temporary coaching”.

This was the most accurate description of Paulo that I have ever read, from someone else in a previous thread and his response to your question really emphasizes it. Not really trying to insult or anything, just someone who called what they saw and seemed to be dead on.

wow, you really can be a cantankerous and useless poster on this forum. i watch others be impolite towards you and often feel like they should lighten up, but here you are again, playing some game with people as if hiding information from them is to their benefit. hints. hints. hints. why don’t you actually tell people whatever it is you think is true, or give them a direct link or article citation or book title for them to go read?

if you’re not going to give people actual information, but merely sarcastically hint that they need to search around more to find it, why don’t you just not post at all? you think its really useful to anyone to post what you have posted to this thread? or any others? i’ve been on ST for a bit more than a year now, and i don’t recall more than 1 or 2 useful postings from you. maybe its all a nice game for you, but your stupid and i-am-so-clever-you-couldn’t-even-guess tone just irritates other people and puts off newcomers. occasionally, its funny, but sufficiently infrequently that its hardly worth the downside.

you’re clearly a smart and informed coach. you could actually provide a lot of help to people here, but you just put them down in the most roundabout and irritating way. please stop.

paulo doesn’t call BS in any way that is useful to the people asking the questions. he makes a short comment that something in a post is BS or wrong or absurd. anyone asks for more info, he makes another short comment, normally to the effect that they are some kind of idiot for not getting his point.

you’re clearly a smart and informed coach.
Thanks for the compliment, I really appreciate it.

I think the sooner Paulo realizes this is the Slowtwitch forum and not the Paulo forum, the better off we’ll all be.

The Unabomber went to Harvard…however, I doubt he’ll be remembered for being smart

What will you be remembered for?

What will you be remembered for?
Hopefully I won’t be remembered for the fact that dozens of anonymous trolls discuss online my online personality.

He honestly seems like a decent guy, just a little high on his own knowledge.

That’s why it is so refreshing when someone like Andrew Coggan puts him in his place. There was a great post a while back when he was being his usual self and found out the person he was replying to was actually some expert in fluid dynamics or some such thing and Paulo ran away with his tail between his legs.

Actually no. I like to keep things well separated and I would never have a work-related discussion here.

This is the place where I say stuff like “Fuck off troll, get a life and leave me alone!”

Hey man, I am not anonymous, my info is in my profile and I have said my name, age, location, etc., many times on this forum. And come on, gimme a break, if you didn’t want “anonymous trolls” discussing you, you wouldn’t even be here.

Remember this thread? It was a classic! Edit: Never have a work related discussion? Asking for a job isn’t work related  ???

Im not sure how accurate this is, but somebody I know whom owns both a p2 and a p2c was telling me how the p2 is more aero than the p2c because the tubes on the carbon bike aren’t a “true airfoil” whatever that means, I’m guessing and I could be wrong but perhaps the tubing on the carbon bike is more of an oval (if you looked at a cross section) and the tubing of the p2 is more of a teardrop if you look at its cross section.

“Fuck off troll, get a life and leave me alone!”

If you wanted to be left alone you wouldn’t be here.

What part of fuck off you didn’t get?

Cervelo is quite open with the fact that true NACA airfoils had their short comings when it came to bicycle tubes and that since the early generation bikes they have gone to a different tube shape. Somewhere around 2002-2003 I believe.

Yeah, I know cervelo is good with their info, Im just saying that the difference between the two bikes (other than frame material) is probably the tube shape, making the p2(sl/alu/whatever) more slippery than a p2c.

Embarassed because I found some posts of you being put your place? It’s OK to have your ego checked every once in a while. If you wanted me to “fuck off” you could easily just stop posting yourself, it takes two to tango. And I am sure you have heard the old saying about resorting to profanity and name calling is the first sign that someone has lost an argument right?

Honestly, you seem like a funny guy who is rather smart. I have searched through your posts many times looking for a little useful information here and there and will admit I have come across some good stuff…I know admitting this means you’re going to only pull the part of this post that is complimentary and put that in quotes and say “thank you.” I am not too proud to be honest, you seem to be. The problem is, you are smart, but you know you’re smart…a little bit of humility is a good thing!

Haha, thanks! Glad you know me so well! Honestly, it’s not about being right at all. I am not sure who is right and who is wrong and about what? Paulo is a smart dude and a great resource, the ability to pick the brain of a pro coach is pretty cool. Is it worth it to put up with his personality? Absolutely! It’s free knowledge, no matter how much you have to sort through, one piece of good info I wouldn’t have learned otherwise makes it worth it.

I would never say he should stop posting or anything like that. Just that he could make it easier for everyone if he wanted to. But he doesn’t…and that’s his right.

Btw, do I know you? Let’s get a beer sometime! I have never resorted to name calling but you seemed to do so rather quickly. Nice job with your stereotyping! Stereotypes do make things easy huh?

My guess is your result will be "inconclusive". Just too many variables.

ps. I have an old P2 and it is an awesome bike.
