To kill children, to throw acid in the eyes of schoolgirls
To be ruthless enough to deliberately target children, to be able to find men who are willing to commit acts of savagery, without conscience, without thought.
To commit these acts to sow fear in your enemy, these “people” know terror.
The taliban is the moral equivalent of , Idi Amin, Slobodan Milosovic Pol Pot or Adolf Hitler.
When pacifist tree-huggers asked me why I supported my country’s participation in Afghanistan, I had plenty of stories like this to point them to.
sometimes I wonder though, if circumstances were reversed and the Taliban had the means, would they rather lay some shock and awe on NYC or London via F17’s and Tomahawks off aircraft carriers, and take out targets in US or UK with drones?
I hear there’s a Taliban Torture Report coming out that exposes that some Taliban systematically failed to properly torture the shit out of some people. Despite evidence that torture revealed vital information such as shrieking in pain and sobbing in a fetal position. And the sensor Taliban knew about it.

Depends on what you mean by “Situations where reversed”. If the US was a third world country driven largely by irrationally following of religious beliefs and Afghanistan was a first world country attempting to protect themselves from us, I suspect the outcome would be very similar. This however assumes that the US and all third world countries are irrationally driven and bound to be terrorist, which simply isn’t true.
Situation reversed I suspect the taliban would use terror to continue to attempt to force all countries to convert to Islam. This would mean using their military to bomb schools, churches and the civilian population in general. That is generally not the goal of the US military as that does not lead to a military victory. The US tends to bomb those targets of military importance. Mistakes are always made of course.
that the US and first world nations in general have been behaving largely rational is up for discussion . . . your comment “Mistakes are always made of course” I assume is in jest.
And yet just last week Hillary Clinton said we should respect our enemies and empathize with their point of view.
From the linked story: Touting an approach she calls “smart power,” Clinton urged America to use “every possible tool and partner” to advance peace. This, she said, includes “leaving no one on the sidelines, showing respect even for one’s enemies, trying to understand and insofar as psychologically possible, empathize with their perspective and point of view.”
Does anyone here have empathy for the sick fucks who would kill over 130 children in a school?

Not I!
No, but saying they know terror is the wrong answer. They are savages, I would argue they know nothing but terror, as such brutality was common in less civilized western civilization as well. How do you deal with that? I don’t know, but not by stooping to their level. How do you wage tot war against an idea and not a people or nation?

Call them savages, but I would say that as terrorists they have succeeded. They got media coverage. They can now get funding and personnel. This was like
Kickstarter for terrorists. Once we all admit that we are in a non-conventional war that requires us to out savage the savages we may have a chance of winning. You can’t negotiate with terrorists AND expect them to keep their work. You can’t bribe them AND expect the bribe to work for long. Until we believe the former keep watching as the “civilized” world gets punched in the ball repeatedly.

Your posts often amaze me. Your own version of shock and awe, I guess.

While I don’t disagree that the US and other first world countries may take irrational actions from time to time, rarely is it irrational of the nature not only willing to attack innocent civilians but never purposefully targeting them. The US and other countries take great pains, often to our own detriment, to target only military targets.
your comment “Mistakes are always made of course” I assume is in jest.
Not sure what you think I meant but when you target what you think is a military target and it turns out to contain civils or you simply miss and hit civilians that would be a mistake. I’m unaware of any cases, any cases where it was not rouge military individuals, where the US military has purposefully targeted civilians.

I would instead point them to stories that demonstrate that our military actions in Afghanistan make a material reduction in the actions of the Taliban. Bonus points if it passes any reasonable sort of cost/benefit measure. No one doubts that Afghanistan is overrun with savage and cruel people.
