At the end of May I ran the Mad City 1/2 Marathon, I did enough training and ran well, but after the race, my right foot has been really sore. I can walk ok, but running is painful. This same thing happened last year and I had to take a lot of time off, this doesn’t happen though after other long races (ex. 1/2 IM)… Why does it happen and what do I do to fix it?? It is to the point that I can feel it biking now.
Where is the pain specifically? Strengthening the muscles in the ankle/foot specifically can help with prevention.
I’ve had issues with this, as well. The large tendon that runs through the arch of my foot gets tight and sore. Seems to happen most often after my speed workouts, both running and biking, but long slow distance or tempo/race pace efforts don’t seem to inflame it.
Does any of that sound similar to your experiences?
is it the top or bottom of your foot? i had some tendonitis problems on the top of my foot caused by lacing issues (happened before but got lazy about lacing new shoes). the regular lacing pattern puts too much pressure on the top of my foot and pisses off the tendons. i found lacing patterns here http://www.newbalance.com/techcenter/getting_fit.html (lacing for a better fit) and found relief that way.
good luck
