lately i’ve been having shoulder problems and got a tempur pedic pillow to see if that helps. wow! I slept solidly through the night, and my little girl did too (my cat bandit). soon enough my husband and I will need a new mattress (it’s a long time coming)…and after sleeping on that pillow, i wonder what the mattress would be like. fantastic i’m sure!
does anyone have one? can you give a report on how it helps you sleep?BTW–I’m interested in hearing about any kind of theraputic-like mattress of any brand.
i can imagine that the sleep would really aid recovery, but i’d be even less likely to get for those early rides. dang, what irony!
Someone else mentioned a “temperpedic” top or something that is significantly cheaper than a full mattress. I couldn’t find the thread in a search though.
If I had the money I’d buy one today…but 3200$ for a mattress is a bit outa my league.
It’s only second-hand knowledge on my part, but my uncle has one and loves it. He is a pretty avid cyclist, and he certainly feels that it has helped him as he used to get cramps and aches at night.
His one caveat is that the mattress is very hot. If you like that, then great, but if you prefer to be cool, you may have a problem. The foam conforms and is a great insulator, so you are apparently ALWAYS warm. But the feel can’t be beat, according to him.
well, damn. the heat thing could be a deal breaker. my poor husband can hardly take me and the cold now…he’s shivering in a blanket and i’m ready to stand in the freezer. bed like that could make us divorce! LOL!
ok, keep em coming, maybe there’s a way to overcome this…somehow. (the heat in the bed, not divorcing my husband…lol.)
My parents have the “sleep number” bed where they can each select their level of stiffness. I always thought it was hokey, but they really like it. My dad is a dentist and is bent over patients all day and then works on his farm 4 days a week, and sleeps better than ever. They are tending to sleep in a bit more, but maybe its their age.
They also have one of the older model Panasonic massage chairs which does wonders for the back. And the newer models have full leg/glute massages. Confession: Now that I am a stay-at-home mom, I make trips to the mall to sit in the massage chairs at Brookstone-cheap entertainment and relaxation, and it beats sitting at home aching from training I would put my money into a massage chair.
Got a king size and pillows 2 years ago. Best sleep Ive ever had. Less or zero aches in hip area while sleeping on side. Also less toss and turn during night. It takes about 2-3 weeks to get used to the simi stiffness of the mattress, but hey its worth it and there is no motion of the bed when you get in/out of bed just like the glass of water demo. More stores are selling this mattress so shop around.
Following the recommendation of a good friend we bought one a month ago. My wife had suffered with a bad back and R Hip and me with hip issues as well. Since purchase we have both been pain free - I will give the bed a huge endorsement and we only paid $1750 for the bed and box. The store in Denver had a $200 discount for some reason. This was discussed a while ago in the Lavendar Room and most people gave it a hit. But you can also go to WalMart and buy a $60 overlay which I am told is somewhat similar.
I’ve slept a couple of weeks in one and loved it. It really works for me because I sleep on my side and the mattress prevents the shoulder from being “crushed” under your body.
My parents have one, and love it, but they said that the mattress had a strong chemical odor for a while until the “molecules were broken down”. Not a big deal for most people, but you may want to consider it if you are sensitive to perfumes, etc.
My wife and I bought one this past Spring. It’s the mid-level Tempurpedic one. I like it a lot. It is definitely hotter than a regular mattress. My wife had been having trouble with her back on the old mattress and she likes this one, but it hasn’t been a miracle for her. Now that I’m writing this, I’m strangely very tired and think I’ll go to bed!
i sleep on my side too and man i get pains in my shoulders alot. the new pillow has already helped but is far from perfect.
my husband told me he wants to wait until we move. i need to make a change soon though because I’ve been hurting. perhaps i’ll try out the overlay and go from there.
I’ve owned one for about six months now. No big deal at all to me. In fact, it kinda bugs me. It’s too firm and too hot.
But my wife loves it and claims all kinds of medical miracles from it. I think that’s a mental thing she requires to justify the ridiculous price and hype.
Seriously, if I could switch back to my old, lumpy mattress tomorrow, I would.
My wife and I have had one for several years. She suffers from back pain, and it’s about the only bed she can sleep in. I find it pretty much a cut above your run-of-the-mill as well.
One interesting thing though… Last year we had an ice storm that left the power out for several days. The house got COLD. When we got the power back on, and went back to sleep on the bed, it was hard as a brick. Until we laid down on it. Then, as our bodies warmed the foam, it softened - but only enough to conform to our bodies. It was like sleeping in a custom-fit wetsuit mold for the first night. Took about two days for it to thaw out.
Don’t waste your money on a $1500 bed. Go to Walmart and get a $60 memory foam (same as tempurpedic material) mattress cover. They are about 2 1/2 inches thick and I swear by it. I Sleep really well on it and helps my SI joint wake up pain free. You could even get two of the covers to make it extra thick.
