Tempur-pedic...anyone not like it initially?

I bought my wife (and me) a Tempur-pedic mattress for Christmas. After one night of sleep my wife doesn’t like it. She says it is too hard (I thought it was fine). She had visions of a pillow top mattress like a high end hotel I guess. Will more experience with the mattress help? Or should I just send it back now. I really am disappointed because I thought she’d love it.

you’re right, it sucks, just send it to me and I’ll take care of returning it for you.

I have been using a tempur-pedic matress for about two years. Love it, love it, love it. Would never go back. My wife and I both had the same reaction as your wife initially. It took about two weeks to really get used to it. Once you do get used to it, you’ll sleep better and your muscles will be able to relax more as you sleep. Better recovery! I swear my ITB issues haven’t been as bad since we switched.

We’ve had one for about 5 years now. Wouldn’t trade it for anything. I think it did take a little getting used to at first.

It’s very sensitive to temperature… if it’s too firm, you might try warming the room up a bit, or keep an electric blanket on it (we do). Last winter we lost power (and heat) for about four days. By the time we got the power back on, the bed was as hard as concrete. Until we’d been laying on it for about half an hour. Then there were nice soft depressions that fit our body quite nicely. It was very difficult to change positioin though, because you had to re-warm the cold parts of the bed.

Normally, though, I don’t even notice it until we sleep on a different bed. My wife swears by it - fibromyalgia, bad back, and knee problems.

On the other hand, my MIL has one (also bad back and two knee surgeries), and she doesn’t like it. Also says it’s too firm, I think.

Don’t they have a 90-day return policy? Give it a few weeks before you return it…

Yep. Give it a bit. At least a month. It definately takes getting used to. I was fine with it after a few nights, but my wife took about two weeks to fall in love. Now we just can’t stand any other bed. We don’t even like to travel because hotel beds and friends house’s beds are light-years worse.

I believe it is estrogen related. My wife doesn’t care for almost anything I buy for her or “us”. I almost bought some really nice, beautiful, expensive copper cookware to replace the old, cheap, used-to-be-non-stick-but-now-the-teflon-is-growing-cancer-in-my-stomach, walmart crap that we’ve been using for about 10 years. But, knowing my wife, I showed them to her in the store first to see what she thought. Too heavy, couldn’t possibly expect her to lift such a heavy fry pan…she’d rather get a new walmart pan. I’ve learned that the best way to make both of us happy is let her make all the decisions.

If you really want to keep it, probably your best bet is to TELL her that you are returning it because YOU don’t like it, and YOU are going out to buy a new mattress without her. Mention that your thinking a cool waterbed would be fun, satin sheets, leather headboard, the works. 50/50 shot that she will beg to keep the temper mattress…

especially Dapper. My wife has agreed to a 2 week trial…so that’s all I can ask for I guess…but I am definately in love with the mattress.

My wife and I had one for about a month. I loved it from the first time I laid down on it. My wife on the other hand never got used to it and we returned it. Her sensation was one of “sinking in.” I would have liked to keep it but lost out on that decision.

I’m not sure I’d be happy with anything else at this point. But if I lose out I wonder where to turn…

Is there a preferred place to get a decent deal, or is the pricing pretty much fixed?

My wife and I have been bouncing back and forth between the Temperpedic and the Nautilis. Costco actually has the queen size Temperpedic for about $500, but does not have the king size that we want.

Any thoughts?

They were selling a Temperpedic pad (about 4 or 5 inches thick) for $140 at costco. Two guys at work bought them, They love them. Maybe its just a local sale , as not all stores carry the same products.
