Temporary housing

This may be a dead end, but I’m trying to use all options available.

This August through October, I’m relocating to an area around Greenville, SC and am in need of some sort of temporary housing. I will be on a clinical rotation for physical therapy school for 7 weeks. This short time makes it difficult to find a reasonable apartment or some sort of accomadations. As you could imagine, I’m on a grad-student budget, which makes things a bit more difficult (at least compared to a corporate exec. relocation!). If anybody out there in slowtwitch land may have a lead, I would greatly appreciate the help! Or, if somebody in the surrounding area has a spare floor-space (I really dont need much), or a possible contact with a spare room, I would certainly be grateful. Thanks.

Also, if anybody has any tips about how to find a place, that’d be great.

Phil

Have you checked craigslist?

Try craigslist. You’ll definitely find a room and you’ll get some great stories from that people that you are living with as well. Craigslist is the epicenter of the weirdness of society.

Also, how are you liking PT school so far? I’m studying for a test that I have to take tomorrow morning which is my first test of the 4 prereqs that I have to take before I can apply to PT school. Any tips for a wanna be PT school student?

it’s not swank but have you looked at extended-stay places? There’s usually one in the area of a big town and they’re pretty reasonable (former grad-student speaking here). My ex-wife stayed at a Suburban lodge for 8 weeks during a summer internship and didn’t have any major complaints.

Thanks for the advice about craigslist. I sent out a few emails last night… we’ll see what happens.

PT school is definetly a challenge, at least for the first year. They essentially throw a ton of information at you, and then you assimilate it over the next few years to actually figure out how to treat somebody. Once all the information starts to get pieced together, it’s not too bad. In all, I highly recommend it, though it hasn’t been the best for my training ;). The job market is phenomenal, and you will have opportunities to work in essentially any area of care that you want to. If you have any specific ?'s about anything, feel free to PM me.

One of the main reasons why I want to get into PT is that I can walk into any city, town, or village in the US and get a job fairly easily unlike my current career which is semiconductors. Also, I like helping people out and I’m strangely very customer/patient oriented so I would find this career much more rewarding than where I’m playing political games with bitchy managers all day long.

I’ll PM you if I have any more questions.

Thanks.

Do you ever feel like the guy who writes Dilbert is spying on you?
