I just bought a tempo trainer for the pool, now, I tried it out for the first time today, but obviously didn’t use it properly.
I tried attaching it to my swim cap straps, and the thing popped right out once i started swimming, and then I tried attaching it to my swim suit, couldn’t hear it, and then i came out. So, for those who have one, what is the best way of attaching it…
and then what kind of workouts are best to use this with? I swim (on a good day when fit), 1.15-6’s (SCM) on 1.25 to 1.30 rest, taking 17 strokes (right and left arm)/length - What kind of timing should i use aswell?
anyone have any suggestions?
thanks in advance

My daughter’s swim team uses the Tempo Trainer. We found that taking the trainer out of the holder and putting it under her swim cap was the best way to do it. Otherwise it would pop out.
Put in underneath a cap, as suggested below.
My athletes usually has it on the side, just in front of and above the ears.
You can use it to train tempo (above, below, at race rates) and also as a timer. For example, my swimmers did 6x50’s on their best 100m 2nd 50 split times at a 2:1 rest to work ratio (ex: swim 30sec, rest 60sec).
It’s a great tool…uses are only limited by your imagination.
I made up a Excel spreadsheet that has velocity as function of stroke rate and stroke length…email me if you’d like a copy (see my profile for the addy).
