Tempo run the day after long run = ok?

I’m trying to organize my next training cycle. Can I do a tempo run following a long run the day before or will I be sho?. I need to squeeze in 3 rides, 4 swims, 5 runs. The only requirement is I need to do my long run tuesday and my long ride on Sunday, can anyone help. Thanks…

Thursday?

I am not a coach nor expert. From what I have read, the short answer dictated by conventional wisdom is no. It is most likely not going to be quality workout as you will be under recovered, also if injury prone a prime chance for that. Judging by number of runs you schedule, it is most likely your weakness relative to the other two. Schedule your runs first, separate long run and tempo run by 48hrs minimum, than fill in the rest. I assume long and tempo are your two quality runs a week. If they are, keep them quality and try not to dilute the value by scheduling them close together.
I am sure some more experienced folks will chime in to give a similar advice.

Not a good idea. You’d be compromising the quality of your tempo run and elevating your risk of injury. Is there a reason why you can’t do your tempo run on Friday?

I would not do a long tempo run the day after a long run.

I could do a long run a day after a tempo run.

I could do a short tempo run the day after a long run.

I would not do a hard tempo run on fresh legs.

I would say definite no on tempo run the day after a long run.

Why not Saturday? I found hard runs had little to no impact on my riding the next day, though that was before I got a powermeter… I guess I’ll be revisiting that shortly as I’ve started running again.

Otherwise, I’d say Thursday is your best bet.
