Does anybody really know (based on their times) what the true distance of the swim was. The race director said 2000 meters “certified”. I swam about 300 meters past the US Rowing course. I made the turn on pace for 1300 meters which means the course was 2600. Also my spilt (my watch) says the same thing.

can’t really say for sure, but i’d guess something along the lines of 2100-2200 meters. maybe a touch longer. i do know that the “2000 meters and NO MORE” that the rd claims isn’t right. times were at least 8-12 minutes slower across the board when compared to winning times from last year, and i thought it was the same bike and run course, so i can’t imagine that more than 3-5 minutes could possibly be attributed to slower bike/run splits(especially considering the outstanding weather conditions). that leaves 7-9 minutes of more swimming…
I emailed the RD this morning asking about the “certified” distance…and the AG women’s results which still have not been posted…and got an auto reply saying they would not be answering emails until next week.
Don’t really expect him to change his “official” stance, but I gotta believe it was closer to 2500m than 2000. Unless my average pace/100m has increased by over 15 seconds since CA 1/2 IM.
I heard many people say that their swim time at this race was between 6 and 10 minutes SLOWER than the Cali 1/2. And this race had better swim conditions. That would seem to equate to a 2500m swim. To me, it sure felt like that.
Yeah, I had a :36 in CA and a :42 in Tempe. I’m definitely not a swimmer and it really hurt my chances against the better swimmers in my AG :-(.
Oh, well, at least they posted the women’s results.
