Tell me everything I should know about fantasy football

What is the best web site?

How do I choose my team?

When does it start?

What are some of your suggestions?

Two words…

Go down to a magazine store and get yourself a draft guide that has player ratings.

We use this software for our league (I am Bo)

Go to the 'links" button at this site and there are some other fantasy sites to read.

The key to winning is to have your money player injusry free and playing up to his first round expectations. Then you have to have a guy or two having a career year that was totally unexpected.

It is one of the few remaining sports dominated by white men

… and guessing the right week to start your “great week followed horrible week” player. Lee Evans for me last year. I don’t think I picked the “right week” even one time with that guy.

The draft (unless you go pick for pick in real-time) is mostly luck. QB’s often have a way of balancing each other out, and the key is how many TDs your running back gets. LT is a MONSTER (if you can get him, get him. Even 12 games with him is likely better than 16 games with 90% of the rest of the league).

Another key is selecting your lineup based on who the opponent is for that player.

Wide receivers are the most unpredictable. A guy could get 70 yards with no TDs one week, and then get 20y with 3 TDs the next. TDs are everything.

Fantasy Football can be like the NCAA tournament pools, where someone who never makes a single roster/lineup change all year ends up winning … at least that’s what I keep telling myself for why I always finsih 2nd or 3rd.

A wise man once told me to start your best players. Over the course of the season they will generally come through. Never try to do matchups or listen to the experts. Of course I never do this. It’s always the week that you think M. Vick will be huge when he takes a dump.

All you need to know:

Fantasy Football will change the way you watch and/or enjoy the NFL. You will no longer just watch the games rooting for your favorite teams. You will begin to watch as many games as you can, and you will find yourself rooting for teams you don’t give a damn about, but only if a certain receiver gets all the yardage, or a certain running back scores in the red zone. You will find yourself hoping the QB in a certain game gets a lot of points, but not his star receiver, because you own the QB, but your opponent has his WR. You will become intimately familiar with players you wouldn’t have been able to name before. Just know that if you start playing Fantasy Football, it will definitely change how you watch football. I know people who don’t even like watching anymore because they are flipping around between games and paying so much attention to individual stats instead of their favorite teams.

I had a pretty good time my first season, by randomly selecting a list of players to bid for in the draft. I did balance the selection so I did not end up with a whole team of tight ends. I then used a spreadsheet that would randomly select players from my roster (I would only select players that were scheduled to start that weekend.)

I ended up finishing slightly below middle of the group, but boy did I piss off my friends when I would beat them with my team ‘Random Chance’. They invited my back next season, but only if I did not use the random generated team. That year, when I tried to use my football ‘knowledge’, I finished second to last.

It’s like fantasy sex - just for jerk-offs.

4th qtr. in a meaningless game - LT already has 300 yards and has absorded 2,000 hits.

“don’t take LT out NO NO NO!”

That is why I don’t play fantasy sports anymore. It became too much about “this guy is doing this”, or “I need this guy to do this” against my favorite team(since it’s the Lions, he usually did, but anyway). I doubly dislike watching football with guys who play fantasy as well, because they want to flip. I want to watch a game. If I wanted to watch another game, I would be watching that other game. If you really need to know the stats, go online. Flipping to the game isn’t going to get them any more yards.

The worst is when you have two players who you need to do well, playing against, and in the case of offense/defense, matching up against each other. Which one do you root for?

Frankly, it’s all just a bunch of baloney that some opportunistic people have made a lot of money on(and more power to them), but it’s really just more proof that football is not the new pastime of america or anything like they claim it to be without the gambling attached to it. Take away the betting, and the "millions upon millions of ‘fans’ " disappear in a heartbeat.

I’ll give you the non-sinister version - some people just find FF to be fun.

Dungeons and dragons for sports dorks.

No kidding. It is possible to play fantasy football without letting it consume you or ruin the fun of rooting for your favorite team. I mean Geez, if Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin are my FF receivers and they’re going against the Bears, there’s no doubt who I’m rooting for … although if the Bears want to play their “bend but don’t break” defense this week, that’s fine too. grin

Again, the extreme need not become the face of everyone else.

As for the “flipping back and forth”, I don’t get that because most FF hosting sites provide “up to the minute” progress for each team’s player (albeit usually for a $10/yr fee after the first few weeks).

I’ve got a buddy that I can’t stand to watch football with. He buys the NFL package, and has seemingly become majorly intolerant of the time it takes to call a play. As soon as the play is dead, he flips to another game, if a play isn’t ready to start, he flips to the next, then to the next. I think we actually watch 22.6% of 84.2% of the week’s games.

At this point, I’m pretty much playing with my son all afternoon, watch Sunday Night NFL, and catch up on everything on “Prime Time”.

I hadn’t checked my baseball fantasy team for a month. They went from T-3rd to 1st by a large margin without me paying attention. Thank you, Brandon Webb.

Shouldn’t be a problem this year…

Every year it seems he is available in the later rounds and I always get suckered into believing this will be his year. Every year I insert him in a few games and he just buries my team. He has his bad Mikey week. Then the next week it s good Mikey week and he runs for 150 yds and throw for 400 yards with 3 TD’s. I’m glad this option has been taken from me. Now if I can stay away from Edgerin James and Randy Moss, I might be a contender!

It makes you a sad sad man.
