Tell me about the swimming speedsuit

I am looking into getting a speedsuit for a non-wetsuit swim. I’ve seen the blueseventy zeropoint3 and the Desoto Liftfoil on their respective websites. What are your experiences with these suits? Do you think you are faster in them? Are they worth the approx. $200? Thanks for your input

Can’t comment on those but in general yes they are faster and my Orca Killa was definitely worth the price.

do you wear your Killa for the whole race or wear it over your race clothing and remove after the swim?

They look funny on slow and fat guys.
They even look stupid when people wear them under wetsuit.

speedsuits are only for the swim. wear it over your bike/run gear. haven’t worn one myself.

Second on the Killa. Much faster in non-wetsuit swims. Plus, looks cool for the rest of the race.

I just wore it for the swim and removed it afterwards and had my 1 piece on under it for the rest of the race (IM).

Hmm, this thread’s got me thinking about getting one. Any down sides to them?

In a non-wetsuit legal swim… no downside.

The hard part is when the water temp is hot and the race director still allows for wetsuits… then you have a tough choice.

Haven’t done any larger races in about a year (doing IMLou). what % of participants are using them?

It’s hard to tell. It will depend on the water temperature, % of swimmers who will wear a wetsuit no matter what and other factors (IM Hawaii a lot of us were wearing them as wetsuits are not allowed). If you are a good swimmer, looking for more speed in a non-wetsuit legal swim or where the water temp is high enough to cause hydration concern for you, a skin suit is faster than non-skinsuit attire. Is it faster than a wetsuit… no but I don’t think I am that much slower in it than my wetsuit, but I am a good swimmer.

What about use a 2XU Super Elite Trisuit? Supposed to have the same (or better) properties as a speedsuit, but, as a trisuit (with a small chamois) it can be worn for the entire race without having to take time to take it off.

I’m a mop swimmer, I suppose. I don’t plan to wear a wetsuit for IMLou if it’s too warm due to the hydration issue. So my choice is speedsuit or tri shorts. I may just spring for one. Now, which one…?

IMO I think some of the suits coming out with a small pad are for sprint or OD’s. I think I would want more comfort on a 1/2 IM or Full IM. But it depends on the person. Not having seen one I can’t comment on it. I also like having a back pocket on my tri-suit for full IM’s. The skin suit covers that.

Squid again IMO your will be faster with a skin suit over your tri-suit than just your tri-suit.

I have the Blue Seventy point 03, and it is a good suit. There is no way it is anywhere nearly as fast as a wetsuit. I think the biggest advantage is that it covers up your pockets of your tri suit. I would be very suprised if it is more than 1 second per 100 yards faster than just wearing a speedo. The amount it saves compared to a tri-suit will depend on how much drag you have in your tri suit. It takes about an extra 3 seconds to take off.

We probably have more drag from the champion chip ankle braclet than what is saved by going to one of these suits compared to a speedo.

It does look cool though.

If a swim is wetsuit legal (less than 78), then wear the wetsuit, as it is always faster. Sometimes if it is 76-77 degrees you are much better off swimming easy in the wetsuit than you are not wearing one at all.

Good point. I have not done a long race in the 2XU Super Elite Trisuit. I have done a HIM in the 2XU Long Distance Tri Shorts, but, I am pretty sure they have a “better” chamois than the Super Elite Trisuit (I haven’t worn the trisuit in a long time, so, I cannot even remember what the chamois looks like, need to look at it tonight).

I should note that I wore the trisuit under a wetsuit. I have never raced in the trisuit alone, but, I have “tested” it in the pool and it “feels” fast.

lol do you have xray vision?

.

Anyone use the Liftfoil Speedsuit #LF7 by De Soto Sports?

What do the majority of racers use in F1 in Europe, seeing as how they have to swim twice I am guessing they don’t use a regular wetsuit during the second swim.

.

I have that one and it works great. I am faster in the pool when I wear it.

I was also interest about the performance of these speedsuits.
What are the models in the market ?? Only these 2 ??
Of course should be able to use in a “non-wetsuits legal swim”.
tks
