Keith,

Kudos. Looks like you’re making great improvements to the race. Access to showers and AC would be awesome especially since there’s no shade to escape the post race heat.

A warning: there are stickers in the grass down by the lake, if that’s where you’re considering for T1. I know this the hard way, making mistake #1 trying to traverse on race morning bare footed (looking for a well stocked and little used porta-john). Mistake #2 was immediately sitting down in said stickers to relieve the pain in my feet

thanks. We’ve been looking into to the vacuum to suck up stuff…

The AC will be nice, and great for families. There are also numerous concessions stands for spectators. We’ll have the Games 2U video game bus again, too.

Showers and locker rooms available post-race. Lots of bathrooms, too. You won’t have to use porta potties after the race:)

Ok, you’ve pretty much just talked me into doing this as my 2nd HIM this year.

I missed Lonestar this year because I went to NOLA. I should have went to Lonestar again. I’ll be back there again next year.

See ya in Austin.

that’s the spirit:)
.

I would agree on the post race party being too far away…and way too expensive.

Sure, you are just doing this to add another hill to the bike, aren’t you? Just kidding…I think that is an excellent idea.

using the expo center, we’re going to also offer unlimited camping and RV sites…We have the locker rooms for showers. We’re working on creating Longhorn Ranch there. Just roll out of your tent, and be at the race site.

We’re also working on doing bonfires with cowboys singing around it, and could do a big bbq at the Expo Center. Whatcha think? That’d replace Hill’s Cafe.

That’s more like it. Make it an event that people want to stay at after the race. How about a bands like you had at Hill’s rather than the cowboys? I’d guess that there are a couple of local bands that would like the exposure. And sell beer after the race. That would be cool too. The bike giveaway at the end post race party was pretty neat too. Too bad I didn’t win it. The lady that did was sure excited about it though.

Showers would be the greatest, although the dip in the lake last year was nice to cool off the jets.

The arena finish will be awesome!

Yes BBQ at the Expo center! Have it going during the run, that gives me the incentive to hurry up and finish

So some of KJ’s plans didn’t pan out.

One week until the race! Haven’t heard much chatter about it.

Now if someone can please help me get rid of the flu so I can get much needed mileage in before this race (nothing like cramming it in at the end!)
.

Anyone know what the current water temp is at the lake?

water temp is 76 right now. Looks good for wetsuits!

Plenty of beer and great post-race food, plus recovery zone. Goody Bags are being stuffed this morning.
Travis County actually came out and fixed the cracks in the road for us, this past thur!

21 aid station opportunities on the run, plus a cold towel station, frozen fruit station, candy station and more. The arena is being set up right now as well.

With the rain we’ve been getting in Austin, the transition area is actually grass now, too:)

Post-race band, plus 6 bands on course, plus cheerleaders and just fantastic groups running the aid stations. It’ll be a blast.

Looks like temps for the race will be good too. Let’s keep our fingers crossed!

The weather looks great… should be a brisk morning with upper 70’s in the afternoon. Looking at the upcoming week there doesn’t appear to be any weather conditions which will raise the lake temp so if KJ says 76deg then it should be a wetsuit legal race. yay.

Flying from So Cal to Austin tomorrow. Looking forward to the race!!! NYC Marathon the following Sunday.

heading down from Boston tomorrow! After this weekend 40 degree days and rain - Texas will be a nice change! What is the BEST place to eat - need to treat my pregnant wife to a tasty anniversary meal and celebration!

what wheels are you guys using?

Lambert’s Fancy BBQ downtown. Great food, kindda pricey, check the reviews out on Yelp. Overall you’ll find that the dining is Austin is good, but not exemplary.

I would also seriously consider going to a taco house and gettin yo taco on. Taco Deli, Juan in a Million, Tamale House and Torchy’s are the gold standards.

Magnolia cafe or Kirby lane for breakfast or lunch.
For a nice dinner, the restaurant at the driskill hotel is worthy.
