I’ve used the stuff to dress others’ wounds, but have seen it mentioned as a dressing for road rash here a few times recently. At 1st blush, I would think it would hurt coming off. Maybe not- so what’s the deal? Treatment of choice for road rash?
I’ve used it for road rash and I think it’s amazing. Just put some neo or any anti-bacterial on the rash and cover and there is no trouble peeling it off.
pretty cool- I’ll have to acquire some for my crash kit…
If you’ve got friends amongst the OR staff, they cab fix you up with really big ones.
I’ve found that Tegraderm works great a few days in, when the wound has stopped weeping. Until then I go with lots of Polysporin and non-stick gauze pads.
Guess where I’m working after my ophthalmology test tomorrow? The surgery clinic might have some good stuff too.
Won’t hurt coming off - I’ve used probably 100 sheets over the years - See recent threads
For the typical hip ones, Duoderm works even better, but it is much more expensive and you won’t find in the OR (usually wound care clinics).
The johnson and johnson Nexcare waterproof bandage works really nicely and is widely available at chain pharmacies and even supermarkets. Buy the large sheets that cover the wound, apply then and leave until they fall off, maybe 3 days and repeat. They seem to be the same as tagaderm but are much easier to find in regular drug stores
If you have access to a surgical supply, also buy some “tube guaze” for arms and legs to keep the dressings in place while you cycle
Sometimes wearing the shorts or jersey you crashed in allows for a hole in the right spot so your wounds don’t get rubbed
