Would have guessed he died years ago.

He did; this is a reboot, like they’re doing with Scrubs or Malcom In The Middle

/p

Last Americas cup winner to skipper their own boat.

Announced he had Lewy body dementia in 2018 and he’s been out of the public for a long time.

I get my years mixed up, I think it was 1977, I was in Newport at the time attending a navy school and we took an afternoon off to board a navy destroyer assigned patrol duty (alledgedly) and view the race. One of my most boring days spent at sea. Light winds persisted.

I’ll always respect him as a sailor for winning the 1979 Fastnet race.

Famously called Lake Michigan a Mill Pond and then retracted the statement after getting caught in a nasty storm in the Chicago to Mac Race

It was interesting reading his obit, thanks for the post. I didn’t remember that CNN was the only network on the ground for the Iraq war. He lived a fascinating life.

RIP Ted

Definitely an impressive set of accomplishments.

The “mouth of the south” goes silent.

One of the largest private land owners and conservationists, too. RIP
