The wife wants an Ipad. Are there any other cheaper, better, faster notepad products out there she should look at?
She uses I phone and Macbook already.

If she already uses an iPhone and a MacBook, she will NOT be happy with another tablet. Go with the iPad. It functions like the other Apple products. You can find the first gen iPads pretty cheap now. I have not “upgraded” to the iPad 2 from the first gen b/c not a big enough “jump” to make the purchase.
There are others but the prices are the very similar for what you get.
If you already have an iphone and mac then it’s a no brainer as they all work so nicely together. I would get the camera adapter which plugs into the port and lets you download from a card or usb. Seems to work with every camera I’ve tried except my old Canon 20D SLR. Makes for a nice travel setup.
I only use my mac for heavy photo editing these days. Battery life is a good 10 hrs except for playing graphics intensive games which is more like 2-3hrs.
Well I bought a color nook, rooted it and then rooted my droid x to serve as a wifi point. I find the combo much better than an ipad. Unfortunately this may be beyond what your wife wishes to do.
I have both the ipad 1 and 2 (work related) and find them toys.
The other tablets suck.
If you want, wait for the Amazon tablet which might be OK.
I love my playbook. Uses my phone’s plan for internet access, so don’t need to buy another plan. Can also bridge it to my phone, so have access to email/calendar/etc. Actually supports flash. Can run more than one thing at a time. Very fast browsing. Stunning video.
But, many of these advantages are only for people with Blackberries, not iPhones, so you might be better off with an iPad.
stick with an ipad if you already are using other apple products… its a great product and she’ll love it…
Depends on what she wants it for. As with other (portable) apple products, it is not a stand alone unit. You must go through itunes for setup and other such functions. If she has other apple products then the transition would be seamless. I have a first Gen ipad, and it suits my needs. As said before, the ipad 2 isnt enough of a leap foreward for me to change. My son got an Asus tablet with the removable keyboard, which he uses for college. It has an android os and he really likes it. It is a stand alone product. With keyboard it is about the same price as the ipad 64gig. My wife thinks Im crazy, but, I think my Ipad would be even more useful to me if it had a built in phone(using a bluetooth earpiece), with my iphone there is too much overlaping capability.
Like others have stated it depends on what she wants to do with it. Really the Iphone does as much or more than the Ipad 1, the Ipad 2 I’m not sure about because I don’t have one. I do have an Ipad1 that my company purchased to test a concept. We don’t do much with it except play videos for our son and play games. it’s nice for surfing but any site that uses flash doesn’t. I also don’t think it supports silverlight but I’m not sure about that. We have the ATT wireless version which unless you’re in a really good location is almost worthless. The WiFi has been OK but not great.
If it were my money I’d look at a netbook or another tablet before the Ipad just based on costs and functionality of the Ipad and all the added gizmos that you have to have to make it really functional. That being said I’m not an apple zeallot so I’m not enamored with everything they make just because they make it.
