Tech question: DA 10spd derailleur/10 spd chain...help?

OK, so I can deliver a baby and do a hysterectomy but my bike mechanic skills are a little weak. Here’s the deal:

I have a DA 10spd group on my Cervelo Soloist. I need to open(break) the chain to replace the front derailleaur(got bent…thank you UPS…). Do I need a special replacement pin to do this?? Are there “master links” that are compatible w/ shimano 10 spd and are they any good?? I live in a small town so I will need to mail-order this stuff.

Thank you.
HC

You will need a replacement pin.

I would not use “master links”, if i were you.

an alternative would be to unscrew the bottom of your front der. cage and pull out the unbroken chain that way. re-insert the chain in the new deraill. the same way.

If this is the front Der only just take the Der off and take out the screw that is on the rear secton of the cage, you can then spread it and take it off with out molesting your chain at all. The less you part your chain the less chance you have of your chain and then your chin parting on a ride.

See the phillips head screw? Take that out - you can get the chain out.

Duh!!! I bow down to my ST brothers. Seriously, thanks a bunch. I should have looked a little closer…“just remove the screw…” Geesh!

I am going to provide the dissenting opinion. I use a wipperman connex 10sdp link. $4 and it makes cleaning your chain a breeze. Just take it off, swish it in some mineral spirits, rinse and it is clean as new.
Shifting never fails, does not put a weak point in the chain. Takes about 10-15 second to remove and 30-45 seconds to install the chain.
Not saying you have to do it for this instance, but if you ever do have to break the chain or when you replace it, get one of those.
