Team sports?

Just wondering what anyone’s current involvement is in team sports (basketball, football, soccer) while training. Also, after becoming an endurance athlete, how has that impacted your performance in other sports? I love basketball but it definitely has taken a backseat the past couple years to triathlon. However, I played a good bit last week and noticed definite decrease in general jumping and quickness ability. Anyone experience the same? Should I reserve non-triathlon sports for off season?

id would say if you want to start playing some of those sports, work up to it so your knee doesn’t collapse the first time you try a hard lateral cut. lol

thats funny you mention that. During my first drive to the basket my knee buckled/collapsed, pretty embarrassing being that I was completely open. Acutally, my knee did have some minor pain, I hope it is not serious.

I never went back to team sports.

I had played hockey at a fairly high level until I was 13 years old - but I was never one of the best kids on the teams. I went out for the cross-country running team in grade-7 and finished 3rd in the first race that I went to. The next week, I won a race. The gym teacher who coached the cross-country team pulled me aside and said, " Fleck, you’re natural runner. I think you have great potential" The Coaches endorsement and advice was very helpful, but I must admit that it was kinda cool winning races, or placing and being part of the action at the front of a race. I never went back to hockey!
