Team javelin (1)

OK so I got my Team Javelin kit in the mail today.

I have a hard time believing that I just fill out a form on the internet and become a member of a team with free kit included.

Are there any other “members” out there that can explain the catch…or is it possible tha I just race in the gear, be really happy about the deal and spread some good Karma?

Kevin

You’ll probably find your mailbox innundated with bicycling/fitness related junk mail because I’ll bet that they sell your contact information. Not a big deal though.

On a side note, I wonder how they enforce the requirement to wear the clothing they send you?

No catch, just a way for Javelin to get 800 rolling billboards out at the races. Since only Cervelo can be displayed at the tris, Javelin went with a grassroots approach that benefits both the AG athlete and Javelin and the team co-sponsors (like me).

I am a Team Javelin member also, and a sponsor of the team. Spread that Karma.

I got mine last week and I like it. I like Javelin. I have an Aero. There isn’t a catch except to wear the gear. Or should I say wear the free gear!

How amped am I!!! I feel like Team Javelin will get every dollar of the advertising budget on me.

As you can guess from my handle I am not your average triathlete. The bill boards otherwise known as my chest and back are freshly painted with new Team Javelin colors.

Now I just need to convince the wife that a perfect match to the new serotta is a javelin???

While I can understand your thoughts that Javelin will be selling your information, Javelin will not be doing that to make a quick buck. Javelin assembled the triathlon team with help from sponsors like Triathlete Magazine, Sugoi, Rotor Cranks, Train to Endure and Fuel Belt. The goal was to support grass roots racing in addition to pro-level athletes. Often companies spend their marketing dollars to buy ads and sponsor athletes, Javelin wanted to try something different. To date, we have almost 1000 members - and we are getting dozens of applications every day. What are we asking for in return? Race in your Team Javelin uniform. Maybe buy a bike. Or maybe tell someone else about the team and get them to apply. There will be Ironman races this year where you will see hundreds of athletes racing in Team Javelin uniforms. Javelin will be at races this year. We’ll be taking pictures - you’ll be able to check out the Javelin Triathlon Team website for pictures of you racing and download them. For free. The only way we can take your picture is if you are in the uniform. And who knows what kind of giveaways we’ll have for team members racing in uniforms…

Mac,

Is the team still accepting applications? I found out about this late and signed up (maybe a week or two ago?), but never received a confirmation e-mail. Thanks.

Thanks for the clarification. Sounds like a good deal for team Javelin members and an innovative method of advertising.

You can still go to the site (www.javelintriathlonteam.com) and apply for team membership. If you want to send me an email (mac@javbike.com), I can check on your application for you.

As a side note, Dan Bowman of the TIAA-CREF cycling team has been on a solo break in the Tour de Georgia all since the 14K mark of the race on his Javelin Brunello…For those following. Javelin is the bike sponsor of The TIAA-CREF cycling team.

Mac,

i am very happy to be a part of this. I like the idea of the alternative marketing scheme. Feel free to email or Pm me with other things I can help with. I am in southern New Jersey and willing to help.

Mac-

Rather than start a new thread…perhaps I’ll just add to this one.

Could you comment on the “stiffness” and overall ride quality b/w the Arcole and the Bartolo. My internet-idiot riding buddy is in love with Javelin and looking for a new Iron-distance racing/training bike (Not a stiff assed 40k TT machine). Since I’m not familiar with your line-up, must as well ask you… Big difference in the carbon? What are your (new) triathlete riding?

thanks

Maybe Mac will chime in. My experience is only with the Arcole, but I’ve ridden it on a variety of roads and find that it’s comfortable on the majority of them. It’s definitely a stiff riding bike. That is my experience. I also ride their Sebino road bike (mid level) that has a carbon rear end. It is honestly one of the best riding and most comfortable road bikes that I’ve ever ridden.

Two more points. A friend of mine also rides and Arcole. Their previous bike was a guru with a full carbon rear end. They think that the arcole is much more comfortable. Very similar position and the seat on the Arcole is actually the same model as on the guru without the cutout.

A shop owner down here has ridden a lot of bikes…Cervelo, Argon, Griffen, Kestrel, etc. He thinks that the Arcole is quite stiff and fairly uncomfortable when compared to the P3.

If I could combine my two experiences, I’d say that the Barolo will be a really nice riding and fast bike.

How does the new kit fit your clyde frame? mines a little tight.

I’m with Kevin here…just let me know how I can spread the Javelin word here in Utah.

First off I was shocked at well it fit. I have not had luck finding gear and that sugoi tri suit fits like it was made for me.

I normally am a 48-50 jacket size and 34 waist, I have to do sleeveless beacuse I can’t get my arms in anything.

recently I have had goodluck with assos xtl size and santini jersey’s. I had raced in a pearl sleeveless jersey and my bib shorts.

Yeah same here. THe winter pounds made me look kinda like a sausage

First off…great looking team gear. I got the 2 piece top and shorts. Thought I should try them out before Wildflower next weekend.

Went for a 30 mile bike tonight and the shorts were perfect…super comfy. Actually want to see about ordering more of these.

As for the top…I felt like it was a bit on the small side.

My significant other ordered the 1 piece size small as he wears for ORCA tri suits and this one was definitely smaller…more like a kids suit.

Thanks again and looking forward to the season.

Yup, just got my trisuit too, and Sugoi and Javelin rocks. It fits like a glove. I can’t wait to race in this thing.
