TDF -- Why no womens race?

While watching the TDF highlights with my family yesterday my daughter asked why there were no women in the race. Is the TDF actually closed to women, or (more likely) they just don’t make the teams? Is there a women’s version of the TDF??

There is actually a thread that discussed this in pretty good detail. I think it was something like “Is the Tour sexist?” If you search for it, I think it will answer your questions.

Is the Grande Boucle still around? I looked on the UCI calendar but did not see it.

I believe the women’s version of The Tour is the Tour Feminin.

I believe it was cancelled last year and wrapped into a couple of other races. Women’s schedule for 2004 is here:

Do you watch the WNBA or men’s gymnastics? Me neither. Same principle.
