TdF TT?

Any gueses/ideas on what is on Vandevelde’s back? Why doesn’t Evans wear shoe covers? Shoe covers just “make” you feel faster…

It looked like F Shleck left with his helmet strap over the ear cover on his helmet. That can’t help.
And Schumacher has an insane stare out there but he gets the job done.
Imagine what he or Evans could do on a P3.

I made all these same comments to my wife and she looked at me like I was crazy for noticing.

We are certainly a different breed…

1 - an ice pack.

2 - he does, they’re just sublimated to look exactly like his shoes.

What is it with some of the guys and thier huge, big, floppy chin straps ??

I think it was Paul or Phil that said Evans’ bike was worth some insane amount of money! Meanwhile CSC is riding stock P3’s that you and I could buy for under 7-8 grand. Goes to show that money can only buy you so much speed…and that a well designed bike, a good fit, and “engine” is what really matters.

I want to know how Bernhard “Enemy Mine” Kohl fell out of the start house.

The King of the Mountains got dropped off the Cat 5 ramp leading up to the starthouse…lol.

you’re kidding, right? have you ever stood in one of those things in cycling shoes holding a TT bike? I bet it happens more than your think. This time, it just happened to one of the top guys, so it made it to TV.

I saw a guy starting just ahead of me in a tt come so close to dumping it on the ramp that I was scared.
The guy holding him just kind of dropped him when it was go time. He seemed kind of shaky holding me as well. I made sure to have plenty of forward force applied before he let go of me.

I like how these guys can break most/all ST rules for position and still go fast.

Hi,

The flipside to that is how so many of us on ST are positioned so well within the sacrosanct boundaries of FIST and are still so…slow.

While not wishing Menchov’s position on anyone, the pro riders are dramatically closer to our position (UCI mandated nose riding, not withstandin) than 10 years ago.

Go back to youtube and look at TT footage from 6-10 years back for a good chuckle.

Did it cross any one else’s mind that perhaps F. Schleck let Sastre catch him so that Sastre had a rabbit? That was my first thought when I saw that Sastre was going to pass him - the only thing that didn’t make sense is that he passed Schleck very easily. Probably not the case though - the more I thought about it the more it seemed unlikely. If this was in fact a strategy then Schleck should have waited until he was close and then take off. Sastre only took 30 seconds out of Schleck in Stage 4 TT so it seems odd that he took over 3 minutes out of him on a stage that was not even twice as long. Maybe the Alps took more out of Schleck than we might have thought.

Finally, why did everyone write Sastre off? He may not be the penultimate time trialer but Evans only beat Sastre by 1:15 in the stage 4 TT - if you extrapolate that over the longer distance then it should have been close between Sastre and Evans - add the “power of the Maillot Jaune” and I think it should have made for great theater … and it did.

No- he gave up a podium finish with a crappy ride. No one would do that intentionally. Also if he could have ridden a great tt, he was in reach of the win. Not that you really want to beat a teammate- but CSC really wants the overall for one of their guys.

I agree but it is interesting to consider that Schleck might have known that he did not have the “TT of his Life” in his legs that morning (which he would have needed to podium, never mind win) and the Director might have wanted to make sure that they maximized their chances of a win rather than a 2nd and 3rd. I may be wrong but a cyclist has only so much say into whether they will be going for a win on a given day - there is always the possibility that Schleck was “demoted” to domestique today.

Again, I don’t think this is the case but it is interesting to hypothesize.

Evans’ Ridley TT bike bike is actually priced at 3200.00 online, I think a little cheaper than the P3C? Ridely apperantly spent nearly a mil desgning and promoting the bike hence the high cost of the bike.

Or so I’ve heard…

Hello Grady and All,

**Evans wasn’t the only one not wearing booties - and some of the numbers were not glued on and looked like they were causing some drag - **

Perhaps these details are not worth enough watts to worry about with a really big engine …

Some water bottle cages looked like they would cause drag too. (Although I saw one setup - can’t remember who - where the aero water bottle nicely filled the area between the down tube and seat tube.)

What do you think?

Cheers,

Neal

yeah, at Mt. Hood, the guy who went off 2 people in front of me fell off (it wasn’t a short fall, either). The ‘holder’ had me pointed way to the left, and it was all I could do to not ride off the ramp.

This stuff looks way easier on television…

"there is always the possibility that Schleck was “demoted” to domestique today. "

Does anyone have a problem with that, if it’s the case? Is that cheating? Technically, it’s supposed to be an individual effort, so isn’t any teamwork against the spirit of the TT? I hear a lot of people suggesting that the team used Schleck on purpose, but no one suggesting that might be a little bit iffy.

Makes no sense at all. What if something happened to Sastre? Bad legs, crash, flat, etc.? Sastre was far from a lock on the tour overall. They needed Frank to do everything he could in case he needed to take up the slack. Fortunately for him- Sastre came through.

“Evans wasn’t the only one not wearing booties - and some of the numbers were not glued on and looked like they were causing some drag -”

… seriously, what race are you guys watching?

Once again, Cadel *was *wearing booties…

They’re sublimated to look like his shoes. We’ve had this discussion 3 years in a row…

And *all *the rider’s numbers are glued on in the TDF - all of them. The riders get new self adhesive numbers every morning. Some of the numbers might have come unglued, but none of them were pinned on.
