TdF Stage 2: Dusseldorf to Liege. Time for Sprinters

OK, where is Power13…I can’t do this job as well as him…someone tell him we need the daily TdF Stage thread.

Tomorrow, they go to Belgium from Germany. Profile has a few minor bumps but sprinters should have fun. Who do you guys think has a chance to pop into yellow. Without a break the time bonuses are not enough to push Thomas out of Yellow unless Sky intentionally backs off to lose it on purpose (but I don’t see why Thomas would want that). Below is today’s GC:

I’ve put money on Cav, couldn’t help myself at 8/1 wrestling between the Gym and staying in bed for the rest of this stage.

For Today I’m thinking with so many sprint teams in, its going to be a fight for lead out trains coming through. The best surfer of wheels is Sagan so I’ll peg him for the win today… Kittle gets caught out of position, Cav isn’t on form, Greipel gets beat on the line.

for GC… I think its pretty much over already. GT may take this all the way to the finish honestly. He was a favorite for the Giro and stopped early before a peak of fitness. Froome is in the best spot he could hope for… as long as he can mark attacks and sit in a wheel he is fine. I think the only 2 options for Sky not winning GC is

#1 Fugulsang and Aru: Pulling what should have been Valverde/Quintana… but Aru for punchy climbs and Fugulsang for steady placings

#2 LaTour and Bardet: I love LaTour… I think he could crack a top 5 this year. His TT yesterday puts him in a great spot… Will be fun to see if he can give support to Bardet and possibly keep his GC standings high enough to make Sky mark any moves.

TDD has a strong lead out train, hopefully the manxman is fully reloaded for the finish line … oCo >>

Wet slick roads = good for Sagan. The guy could ride a front wheel wheelie with no power to his back wheel and still out wheel surf everyone!!! Lots of rain now, hopefully no one gets hurt.

With this weather here in Germany it’s clear why the TdF should better take place in France …

With this weather here in Germany it’s clear why the TdF should better take place in France …

I thought you guys were just having a heat wave and then we get England November weather to take out GC favourites. Fingers crossed no casualties today.

With this weather here in Germany it’s clear why the TdF should better take place in France …

Break is 2.5 minutes up at 55K left. With this crazy weather and maybe the peloton less likely to take risks can these guys stay away? I think the standard math is 1 min per 10K over the peloton is what a break needs (basically ~50 kph vs 60 kph)

There is always a chance… but I’ll say there is a 99.9 % chance Quickstep (Belgium team) brings this back in their home country in tough conditions to try and get Kittle the win… But as I predicted earlier, he gets caught out and Sagan takes it.

Would love to see Phinney in Yellow though

Looks like everyone just wants to drop the sprinters at place and than have a warm bath with a hot cup of coffee in the hotel …

As a Norwegian I am hoping Kristoff will have a good day. Rain can help him. But most likely he will be 3 to 6.

I am not going to complain about NBC. Has found out that a Norwegian radio station will be broadcasting TdF live over internet so I now have great commentators for three weeks

… 1 hour left, it’s slowly getting hotter in the peloton now, no chances for the tete de la course …

… on a roundabout … SSHHIITT …

… the dices for the stage are mixed again …

… Cav could calibrate today, nice to see he has form …

… on his silver green S5 …

Perfect timing on my part. Slept in but turned on the TV in time to see the crash that took down Froome. Phinney taking the 2nd KOM point. The break caught at 1km. Kittel winning the sprint. Not the greatest stage ever, but not a bad way to spend 30 minutes on a Sunday.

Tomorrow should be a better stage to follow.

Nice call, you knew Quickstep was gonna make the catch and give their man a chance.
Sagan got out sprinted in the end by almost all the fast guys, especially Kittel
Cav was fourth, he might be able to race himself into form by the time they get to the Champs Elysee.
chapeau to Phinney for a brave ride tho, and he looks good wearing polka dots

I am just glad that none of the favourites was too hurt in that crash. I was hoping earlier that the breakaway would survive, but I guess that was wishful thinking
