I just got to thinking today that I’d be waxing for a 3 week tour. No way I’d want to take time to shave each day, or even every other day if I didn’t have to.
Assuming I could stand, it’d be food, shower, massage, food, sleep and that’s it.
Another question, when Sheryl is following the tour daily, is Lance shacking up with her? Doesn’t he usually room with George? If he is with Sheryl, does George get his own room?
Phew. No more flat stages please! Too much time to think, not enough action.

wax once and yor good for the entire tour. No prickly stubble so Sheryl (or George) can snuggle with out getting scratched.
Or if they’re really dedicated- electrolysis! Sure it’s expensive, but Lance can afford it. I guess you’d have to be really sure that you never want leg hair again.
In general it has (was?) considered inappropriate for a rider to commune with their significant other during the tour, other than a greeting and a peck on the cheek.
The traditional dinner with the team at the end of each day and the closely choreographed routine doesn’t allow much time for socializing. It is work.
It is very important for the team to eat together in the evenings and share common dwellings. It helps individual morale and motivation enormously when things are tough out on the road.
I’d rather snuggle with George.
Generally wax. Old school cycling lore says that growing hair costs energy, and therefore shaving too close/during a competition will cost you a fraction of energy, and is therefore verboten. (uhm, the hair is still growing if you wax it, so not sure how that works… plus you have to produce a new hair follicle. But such is old – mostly Belgian – cycling lore).
It is rumored that Lance will occassionally room with Sheryl. Such behavior has, literally, resulted in riders on other teams being fired. Lance is Lance. The big boss. He can do what he likes. But I don’t think they ALWAYS room together.

Yes. Belgian guys are crazy… Read Daniel Coyle’s “Lance Armstrongs War.” He talks about all the crazy TdF supersitions… And gives the name of the guy who was fired (and which team)… It was during the '03 or '04 TdF…
I don’t know about Sheryl, but on last year’s Lance Chronicles, they said tha everyone on the team is paired up with another rider in a two man room, with the exception of Lance, who gets his own room.
Most shave.
If you watch “Hell on Wheel’s” they talk about it at length.
Also they shave fast. Faster than I ever would. Hence I wax once every 4weeks.
