Taylor Knibb Three-Peats, Wins IM 70.3 Worlds

Think that was Lahti (21 seconds) (and faster than this time yesterday)
Estimate Saturday’s stop was about 27 seconds

Or perhaps she just likes being comfortable, maybe more athletes should invest in a restroom break instead of hold it which causes other issues. She seems to win a lot of races taking pit stops, might have won Kona had she not had to serve a penalty.

It’s not about suffering through being uncomfortable with your GI. It’s about getting your nutrition dialed where it gets fully absorbed so there is no GI distress and no need to stop. I would stop too if I had that much discomfort. But she needs to figure out why it’s happening and make the necessary changes. Do you think LCB, Haug, Philipp, Matthews are “holding it” during a race?

Knibb’s penalty was 1 min in Kona. Even without that penalty, she wasn’t winning.

It’s a 3.5 hour event, how often do you go between pit stops? To pee or not to pee is like the great sock vs sockless debate.

Has it ever been acknowledged that she’s on the spectrum? Speech patterns, dissecting every question, analytical mindset, folding up the finish tape after every win and placing it neatly on the side, etc. There’s a story here I hope someone brings to us.

She ain’t stopping to pee….

Dude, I understand I’m not an elite athlete, but I’ve taken at least one dump every 70.3 I’ve done. Perhaps we should normalize using the restroom instead of force holds. I bet you her opponents go to the restroom within 10 minutes of crossing the finish line.

No, but if you know her background the behavior isn’t that odd. She went to an exceptionally small school from what I think was Kindergarten to 18 and then went to Cornell. So “sheltered” and “Socially Awkward” are perfect descriptions. But she’s incredibly intelligent so some of these behaviors aren’t just restricted to folks who are autistic.

And I’m trying to tell you that top pro’s and even top ag’ers aren’t force holding anything. Even for an IM. It’s possible to do a 70.3 or an IM without having to go #2. And no they aren’t having to go immediately after finishing.

Cornell has 16000 undergrads.

Yes, I know, I googled it before I wrote that. Doesn’t impact my point, she went from a crazy expensive school with a pretty sheltered childhood to a school outside of Ithaca, NY, where she was on the cross country team and still did U23 triathlon from time to time. If you can’t see how her world would be incredibly small I won’t be able to help ya!

And yet, none of them have beat her in the last 70.3 World Championships. So…hmmm.

Cornell XC alum. As a 1st year she would have to live in a dorm with 100s of other 1st years (requirement). At a school like Cornell (no athletic scholarships) there are no “rocks for jocks” classes, she’s in the intro, auditorium classes with several hundred others. Classes don’t get small (<20) until at least junior year.

You can live a cloistered existence anywhere, even Manhattan with millions of residents; but going to a school like Cornell would have little to do with it.

In 1972 my Bio 101 lecture at Cornell had 1000+ pre-med, pre-dent, pre-vet, engineers etc. meeting all together in a single auditorium. It was more than a bit intimidated for a country bumpkin whose high school graduating class was only 83;)

Yeah point being I don’t thin she is shy, I think she has a slight dusting of being on the spectrum and I think it’s her super power. She has laser like focus while racing.

I’m not even a top AG’er and I’ve never had to stop for that on either 70.3 or IM. And last 70.3 I was in 120g per hour for the bike, so not shy in carbs either.

Ya’ll seriously arguing over her being autistic and her digestive system capacity?

Really?

Don’t encourage the children, please.

So that big difference is how hard she’s working. The more you stress you body, the more your to digestive system wants to get whatever is inside of you, out of you quickly.

The intensity she is working at is clearly peak human performance. There might not be anything she can do other than moderate her pace. Although I do wonder about the memory effect of this stuff. If your body gets used to peeing when you turn on the shower, you always have to pee when you turn on the shower. Likewise, if it gets used to pooping when she’s 10k into a hard run after a long hard bike?

Interestingly, during the PTN interview think I heard Kmibb suggest that Ash also soiled herself in Dubai. And she clearly put her body in distress too.
